At last, I have finished building my "welding bench with sink" project. Only took about six weeks or so :p
It's built much like a Defender, out of Aluminium TIG welded together, with the top held on by recessed rivets and SikaFlex. Fit up is a bit better than the usual Defender level, although that may not be saying all that much.
This was my first proper project TIG welding anything, and I learnt a lot. Destroyed quite a bit of Ali on the way, but now I can at least do half reasonable welds, as long as I am using 1.6mm or thicker material. Tried TIGing 1mm sheet and it just got horribly deformed, so I stuck to rivetting that stuff and welding the rest.
Because the whole bench is Ali, I can just clamp the edge of the bench, and anything put on top is "live" to go for welding. Easy.
So - on to the next project, which is sorting out my air compressor. Or maybe it will be learning how to TIG weld Stainless Steel....
Cheers
