Not even two days after order I received the Nikkor 300mm f4 :) :)
Talk about excellent service from DWI!
Now to look forward to using it, at work and no camera to plug it into to :(
Update: Got some pics :)

Nice :)
Though you need a better mounting than that method.

Yes DM, I completely agree. I tried out of curiosity what its like to control the weight of camera/lens with ball head and its sux! So will be looking at alternatives, either another pan/tilt head for the tripod, or a monopod type setup.
Tried the lens out against some flowers I had indoors and they came out crisp with great bokeh as well.

Nice!!!
I guess that the mounting it is better that hand held job for sharp images.

nice. Although it does look like you have taken more images of the lens than you have taken with the lens!
Cheers, Steve

Right, just to add to the shakiness of using a non VR lens :p, I bought a Kenko 1.4 tele today (ordered through DWI).
So now the wait... wait... wait...
Also, I have decided to use the tripod with the lens in the first instance, only taking off tripod for more difficult shots. If this proves to be a winner ill look at a monopod.

Here's a recommendation to fix the tripod head issue:
Better collar and foot: - LC-A10 Package: Collar and foot package - Kit Configuration Page (http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=LC-A10-Pkg&type=3&eq=&desc=LC-A10-Package:-Collar-and-foot-package-)
Better Ball Head and plate: - BH-40 LR: Mid-sized ballhead with LR - Kit Configuration Page (http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=BH-40-LR&type=3&eq=&desc=BH-40-LR:-Mid-sized-ballhead-with-LR)
Also have a look at Kirk or Markin.

Join the club :) On an FX sensor that 14-24 is brilliant.
How do you find the LensCoat? I've considered getting these but I'm worried about dust getting underneath them.

How do you find the LensCoat?
I think the idea of the pattern is that you don't :p

Yes, I noticed he has the digital camo pattern. They do come in other patterns as well as plain black.

The idea of camo ... to be discreet and hidden ... fails miserably in this case. These digicam lenscoats attract far more attention than I bargained for, and more than naked gear.
Don't have a problem with dust so far, and the extra bit of protection against knocks and bumps gives me some reassurance, whether real or imagined.
