Help I am in Albury my TD5 has decided to run on 4 cylinders. This has happened before and inspite of what I paid for and was told I believe the wires going to a solenoid on an injector have disconnected. Is there any one in Albury Wodonga that can help as I need to return to Young tommorrow.

Hey DiscoPug - you've opened up 4 identical posts in different sections.

Stick to one thread and you'll get an answer just as quickly.

I only know about TD5s in a Defender, and I'd be checking for oil at the ECU plug first. In a Defender, this is under the drivers seat, but not sure where they live on a Disco. If you find any oil wash it out with a spray solvent.

Isnt there a wiring harness plug on the engine somewhere that gets oil into it? Sounds like this could be the cause.

Hi, the same happened to us once when we got oil into our injector harness. Not a difficult fix, but you need a new harness (under $100) if that is your problem. This can be checked by removing your ECU plugs (disc the battery first) and if one of the plugs is full of oil, probably your problem.

Like Bundalene says, sounds a lot like oil in wiring harness. Do a search and check out the Good Oil section of forum...it is a known an common problem.
I think it applies to earlier models and there was a production fix?

Car typically runs with limited power ..just like it is on 4 Cyls.

A pressure pack of solvent such as carby cleaner ( eg supercheap/atobarn etc) or electrical contact ceaner( eg Jaycar electronics). Spray can is handy but other oil solvents and a brush will probably work also.
This will temporarily help and probably get you home...even if you have to stop and re-clean. You need to clean the plug/contacts at the ECU ( behind the Battery box/Jack area) where the loom attaches to the ECU.

Remove the acoustic cover. There is a short loom that comes out of the cam cover( where the oil is!!!) and is plugged into a loom that goes to the ECU. Clean this plug/join as well.

I fitted both new looms to mine years ago and no problem since.

Bundalene will probably get criticized by others for saying you need a "new" loom as there is also a "Fix"on the forum where you hang the loom and have solvent pour down through the wiring. In simplistic terms..the oil travels inside the plastic wire covering and saturates the copper strands till it hits the ECU Plug where it shorts out the signals to the ECU.

Hope this helps and you are able to get mobile again...it worked for me.
Cheers
Bob
