I also have a polished alloy one to go with the polished bar. Might look ok with the black bar too.

Maybe once I get a stock P38 in the garage again to do some measurements... The stock black one is still at Bundalene's keeping the sun off his grass ;)

haven't decided yet whether to sell with all/ some/ none of the HRA bits, but it is going.

am open to suggestions or offers via PM (not that PM, she drives a Camry).

it has developed a whining noise in/near the engine since last weekend so i wouldn't want to sell until i sort that out. Probably just an idler wheel or maybe low tranny fluid. going to investigate further today now that I've "cleaned" the engine bay with the Karcher.

would prefer to sell it via word of mouth or the for sale section here to another P38 enthusiast who knows what they are getting in to.

I love the HTFU..you going to put that on all the off road gear? I reckon you should..

Can I ask though as cool as it looks what exactly is it protecting? the one on my disco prevents my steering damper being taken out..

Andy had a bunch of HTFU stickers made up, and some others not so discreet ;)

Next batch will probably be HTRU, and the more obvious "Harden The Rover Up" variation.

The plate is to protect the lower radiator from stones and tree branches.

A steering guard may be coming one day, but is a lot more complicated due to the impressive articulation of these vehicles.

Good job Paul the bash plate looks really good- I actually got to inspect your new beast the other night and can confirm it looks very tidy. Regarding your snorkel exploits, your a madman !!!! still I bet you won't do it a third time that is take an unprepared RR sans snorkel or unsealed snorkel into deep water. Keep up the good Rovering Captain

Thanks Captain - I'm pretty happy with the plate too. I hardly even notice it is there any more.

I must get up to Sydney soon and get the Black Label Rangie registered. I'm going to transfer the RRP38A plates to the black one, but have to sell myself the blue one first (it is owned by my IT Consulting business) so I can dispose of it however I wish.

Rego is up in January on the blue one, so I either want to sell it as is, or convert it back to stock-ish and then register it privately. The black one will probably be private rego too... can't really see too many advantages having a 10yo company vehicle any more, especially the extra $$ you get slogged for insurance and rego for having it under a business.

But I digress... the blue one was sorta ready for off-roading... I had my 33"s on and FaultMate on the back seat. Ok, so I didn't have a spare air spring in the boot and all my tools and recovery gear were under the floor, and the snorkel (ahem, Raised Air Intake) wasn't properly sealed at the air-box inlet :o

Water wasn't very deep, but my approach speed was... so yeah, I guess I am a madman... won't stop me from doing it again though. I hope Dave and his Pretty Pig are there to pull me out again if it goes pear-shaped ;)

Found the whining noise... no it was not a loved one or ex-employee :p

Process of elimination:


removed the viscous fan... noise still there, so not that.
replaced the alternator... still whining.
replaced the AirCon compressor with an un-piped "spare"... still whining.
didn't have a spare power steering pump so cleaned it up as best I could... still whining.
new water pump at the ready... last resort.
removed the pulley/jockey wheels, removed seals (thanks for the tip Andy), cleaned and packed with grease. Noise gone :D

Happy happy joy joy. It's nice to have a win sometimes.

Just give me a couple of weeks notice and I'll attempt an appearance! Here's another thought... seal up that snorkel properly. Don't forget, you are meant to be testing it for the rest of us!!!
