Good Evening Viewers and welcome to the Cheeky Report Coffs 2010 – Special Edition - Part 1
Once again Coffs Harbour lived up to its reputation of being one of Australia’s Best 4WD area!!!
We left BP Chinderah BP on time arriving at Shane’s place around Lunch, Shane was visibly impressed with the caliber of Rovers that arrived in convoy.
Settling into Shane’s fantastic camping area, We were off into the nearby bush about 2pm.
5 minutes across the creek and a couple of warm up hills we, OK I, no take that back, Cheeky had a go at John’s Hill (We were told that it would be impassable) so naturally Cheeky wanted to try.
Up, Up …… Not up, Hold…… Down we went. When Cheeky stopped sliding I looked out to see Kelvin Face first in the bush. Having dived off the track to avoid being run over!

So expectation were lowered we headed up to the tower to look at the Steep behind the tower itself. Being raining at the time we set up a winch point and headed down and around to the bottom to have a go.
All cars got up only Kelvin doing it without winch assistance.
Back to Camp for a quite ale and tea, during dinner we received text updates from our local guides who decided to come to camp via the Eagle Nest (one of the harder tracks at Coffs – and that’s saying something)

Day 2
Our Coffs Guides arrived early and we were off to Mt Coramba.
We were shown a short way over the mountain,
The weather and track conditions were challenging to say the least.

We then had a play in the Creek
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/570.jpg

Off to Dump Hill, which gave a good challenge

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/572.jpg

There was a little bit of opps and a CV issue

All hands on deck

this was a trip i have looked fwd to for 2 years as last year i had diff problems a week before due to ormeau creeks ,and there was no way i was going to miss out this year .
It was a great crew who went down all with the trucks who can handle the holy **** stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:o:D

i was all packed by the 7;30pm on thurs night and kept on saying to myself i have forgoten something went through food/camping/ spares list and was all there ....woke up twice during the night thinking i had forgoten something and stil nothing got to BP still thinking i had forgoten something and by the time i was at grafton ....:( i worked it out .................................................. ..........CAMERA bugger

oh well

hat goes off to Gaz for sorting out the camp spot ...what a awesome spot
even tho there was a bit of rain we still did big tracks some where totaly impassible due to clay and rain and months of heavy rain making big hill climbs totally washed out ...
Having the local guides was a huge plus to the weekend due to there vast knowlege of the tracks that could be attacked in the rain and believe me all gave it a crack with success and defeat ..
the rest i will leave to the ones with pictures

Once again BIG thanks to Sando and Tim for the guide around the Coffs rain forests AWESOME track guides
looking fwd to the rest of Gaz /Tims and Keiths photos i wil also leave it to Gaz to tell the story of the great recovery and winch chalenge which was had early on sunday morning due to sat nights shananigans by his JEEP mate Wanye?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and all good that the gold cost members all survided COFFS without any breakages well done all and this is all due to great quality trucks trip prep and good driving
and a thanks goes out to the leaches which sucked us all dry

cheers kelvin

Thanks to Gaz and helpers/contacts for a great trip esp the camp location - top spot

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/491.jpg

It was wet and on the first track Sat Gaz got up but only with winching - too slippery for anyone else to go so had to duck around

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/492.jpg

We did a creek run
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/493.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/494.jpg

Fixed CVs and tyres off the rim

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/495.jpg

Wops don't show this dent to josh - hit the tree trying to miss the tree - will need the hammer out tomorrow
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/496.jpg

And as Kelvin said we ran the leaches (in the lantana they were jumping onto the cars I reckon)
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/497.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/498.jpg

Sat am there was a fight over between Kelvin and Justin over who was going to have Gaz after we recovered him from trying to recover the Jeep off the track
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/484.jpg

Kelvin waited in the bushes
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/499.jpg

Then he pounced at the right moment
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/500.jpg

And the GAZ was his to drag home - he must have thought GAZ meant Gazelle and he was having fresh steak on the BBQ for dinner
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/501.jpg

Seriously it took a team effort to get Gaz up the hill and then turn the Jeep around on the track and snatched back up the hill - was very slippery. I had to back the Orange Rangie down to snatch him up.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/502.jpg

Sat Kelvin had a go at a track climbing the bank but tail dragged
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/503.jpg

Then we convoyed home - was a good trip not too hot but some tracks not 'doable' due to wet - sure glad I put the 117 Extremes on though!
Auto played up a little so lucky we did not try to drive the 4.5 hrs there. I think the Auto oil pump is not working properly as it is fine down hill and when revving (ie was fine when running 60kmph in low) but heats going up hill or in high range - over 130 and sometimes to 140 Deg. Next job to fix after photo shoot.

More pics to come but need to sleep now.

Welcome back viewers to Part 2 of the Cheeky Report – Coffs 2010 edition
When we left our crew, we (Actually Justin) had just removed a Cv from the front of our Coffs Guide’s Fender. (Fender / County they all look alike to me:angel:)
So what to do now?
Pub for lunch was the natural thing for any Land Rover owner who had just preformed a CVectomy
So it was off to Coramba via a “Look” at Commando. (Has not gotten any easier…..! :()
After a quick bite to eat and a round table about what to attack next, it was decided that Wooli would be the best shot for some FUN,
Having regard to the damp nature of the hills, the soil (more rock less clay) at Wolli was considered best.
I was expecting the 3 wheel fender to head home, but no these Coffs blokes are made of sterner stuff, our guides were on a 2wd mission.
Arriving at Jeep Hill, we found the Creek washed out, about 5 meters of washout.. :o
Never mind we will just have to drive down from the top then climb back up
Cheeky was a bit scared and waited (shaking in her KM2’s:no2:) while the others worked out a good route.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/467.jpg

Climbing back up I was impressed with the KM2’s. Reviews I had read, said they were good on rock and that proved the case.

Tim drove up nicely
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/468.jpg

Justin cruised up
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/469.jpg

Kelvin fresh from his victory on the Tower the night before went an “extra credit line”:twisted: which proved a “little tricky”
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/470.jpg

Backing out was even more tricky
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/471.jpg

Justin jumped in to guide, keeping others out of trouble.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/475.jpg

Well most others, Trav logs some more "Air Time"
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/476.jpg

Not to be out done Philippe also logs some big Air :woot:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/477.jpg

How was that ride Eve?
Just talk to the hand
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/478.jpg

Oh Well at least the kids liked it
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/479.jpg

Back to camp via a “Look” at Widowmaker, did I mention that a Disco was the only truck to do the Tower without a winch….?
Probably explains why Kelvin was keen to have a look,
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/376.jpg

Other were not so keen
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/377.jpg

Before I go for now,
I must do some thank you’s
In no particular order
Justin for providing wisdom all weekend, great knowledge of what can be done and what is silly to try, kept us safe and in no small part sent us all home undamaged.
Tim for organizing the locals, made for a great weekend being taken quickly to stuff which was fun, meant we got through much more than we would on our own.
Kelvin for getting his Disco up the tower and for pitching in with winching duties
Keith for snatching my wayward friend after his night navigation error (more on that to come)
Trav for making great V8 noises
Philippe for making the most air during the weekend.
Thanks to all our Coffs friends for the guidance
Shane if you get to read this, thanks for letting us use your place, Love your work.

Thanks to anybody I missed, another super successful GCLRO trip.

Coming up soon a special edition of the Cheeky Report, What happened in the dark Saturday night???
Stay tuned

As I said I thought I had a couple of good ones of the recovery - but did not know about this one till I down loaded - you two frame the picture well I thought!
Funny sometimes the picture become the background for a great foreground that becomes the picture.

Well where to start

The Leary's also forgot the camera, for that we are sorry.

Was great to get away but I was a bit knackered for most of the weekend and the "all in Jeep winch recovery finished me off ".

Phillipe and myself both soon realised how rusty you get when you dont get out alot. We both had a chuckle at the crappy lines we took on some tracks;). But Coffs being Coffs soon had us sorted and we sunk our teeth in and got into it.

Both saturday and Sunday served up some great tracks which all vehicles tackled with great commonsense. I thought everyone drove superbly as Coffs in the dry can bring you unstuck, let alone in the rain.

Great company as usual, Trav stayed awake at least untill 7.30. Maybe we should nick name him "Prime Possum or Big Dog " as they go to bed at 7.30:D.

Camp site was fantastic and as Gaz said close to the action. Big thanks to Gaz, Tim & his Dad. Santo was great in giving up his weekend ( and his Coffs driving tips). Couldn't have done it without them. Although I think we might have killed Tim's 200 TDI. Time for an Isuzu injection hey Tim.

For those who did not come you missed a great "scary at times " trip. At one point I had Torqit standing on it's back wheels in a more vertical position. I looked at Patrick, then at Santo and realised by the look on their faces it was a bit more vertical than I imagined. hence reverse was selected and we backed out of that one. The brown stuff was MUD coming from the back of us guys right, sorted dont talk about the war.

Thanks to all who attended and for the convoy company there and back.

Till the next trip

Justin

ps
It was a shame that Commando and Koala were so eroded as in the past years we have driven them. Honestly you would need a buggy with 40" plus tyres to drive them now. But that happens with steep country and big rainfall.

pps
How were the leaches. My legs are still oozing fluid from my multiple attachments. I,m just waiting for Sigorny Weaver to appear before the huge leach burst's out of my guts.

Welcome back viewers to Part 3 of the Cheeky Report – Coffs 2010 Special edition
When we left the action our intrepid Rovers were back in camp discussing the day’s adventures.
What we were not to know was the adventure which lay ahead for some of our group.

First some background on this Wayne character, Wayne is to Jeeps what Outcast is to Rovers.
Wayne has a shed at Burleigh from which emerges some extreme Jeeps. You can see his work at Gallery (http://www.jeepford.com/gallery)
Wayne has recently Sold his J10
So Wayne needed a new project and naturally Coffs supplied the answer (lots of Jeeps around Coffs).
Wayne’s next job is to convert a J20 into a 6 wheel drive Tow Truck.
Having heard of our Coffs trip Wayne decided that This Weekend would be a good time to collect his “new” J20 before the very capable J10 left for its new owner and he would be short a tow vehicle. .

Wayne had been talking to our friend Shane Lowe, and Shane offered to put Wayne up for the night at his house.

I could smell trouble, and had already read Wayne the riot act a couple of times. :coplight::rulez::coplight:
You see Wayne is about as one eyed Jeep as Trav is Range Rover.

Wayne had spoken about riding along with me for the day, but when Saturday Morning arrived Shane was to do a favor for an old girlfriend (I smell trouble right there) anyway Wayne was drafted in to assist.
I had called Wayne several times during the day, I thought he might join us at Coramba Pub for lunch and ride shotgun for the arvo.
Finally much after dark Wayne rings up, wanting to know what’s for dinner.
The slur in the voice gave away the fact that Shane, the old girl friend and Wayne might have had a few drinks. Maybe starting early in the day!

I had been expecting the dinner request, because when the Jeeps camp cooking tends to become a communal affair, everybody pitching something onto the table.

So I waited for Shane and Wayne to come down from the house, which is high above the campsite on the ridge.
Waiting, Waiting then I heard the sound of a 350 Chev. Then silence. Then more 350 Chev this time at many many revs.
It did not take the phone call from Wayne to work out what had gone on.
Shane in a Dutch Courage inspired piece of Navigation had suggested the Short Cut to the camp.:imwithstupid:
The Short Cut is basically a Black Dirt Track straight down through the rain forest. Very steep and with the weather very slippery..
Wayne though the whole thing was very funny and suggested that he just needed a little winch to pull the back of the truck onto the track. :oops2:

Cheeky could not resist the opportunity to rescue a Jeep and raced up to help.
The hill was wet and steep, not as slippery as John’s Hill the day before, but it had a crust which once broken lost nearly all traction. At least there was enough grip to prevent any Reverse Bob Sleigh action.
Adventure turned to fars when Cheeky climbed around a corner but run out of forward progress.
She did not slip back, so I let her roll back about a car length and had another go. No forward progress was achieved.
I radioed Kelvin, who had followed, to stay down as I would back out.
Unfortunately for Cheeky the corner which she has bravely struggled up was on quite a side slope and as we tried to turn back her rear tyres could not be coaxed up and around the corner. :(
I hit the two way again requesting help, Kelvin and others soon arrived, we hooked Cheeky’s winch to a nearby tree and she was soon back on the track.
We tried to reverse on the winch but the back refused to play the game and slipped down again.
Wayne and Shane walked down and the decision to wait till morning to recover both vehicles was taken.
Finally sense had returned.
So Cheeky spent the night in the bush tied to her winch and an extension strap.[bigsad]
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/412.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/413.jpg

Day 3
Our plan was to go for a morning drive, but first there were a couple of trucks to recover.
First up was cheeky and a mega winch challenge
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/414.jpg

Next up was to correct Wayne’s parking problem.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/415.jpg

Looking at the skid marks, it must have been a bit of a ride.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/416.jpg
Lucky they did not make it to the steeper part of the track

A quick look at the track led to the decision that the Jeep needed to be U-Turned on the track and snatched up.
So Cheeky’s winch was used, through a snatch block and several trees and with a great team effort resulted in the Jeep pointing up hill
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/417.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/418.jpg

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/421.jpg
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/11/422.jpg

Keith was then called in to snatch the Jeep out to safety.
A big thank you to all involved. :clap2::BigThumb::thumbsup:
Lesion learnt - Wheeling and Drink don’t match
I use the same standards for Wheeling that I use for flying, that is, 8 hours from bottle to throttle.

Back to camp, and off on a trip up to England’s Road and a look at Koala. Still a mad hill track. :no2:
Heading back to camp we had a go at the three step ups off England’s Road.:twisted:
Packing up and we were off home in convoy after saying goodbye to Shane.

End of another great trip.
Cheers to all involved. Especially Sando, mate you are a legend if you got a Land Rover you would be unstoppable.

Okay, I guess I better put my assessment of the weekend up.

I do have video, but my PC is being repaired atm and I am using a loaner til it's fixed so the software to edit it is not able to be loaded (bloody Vista :mad::mad:).

Anyway, started off on the Friday at the BP Chinderah where Justin and kids as well as Kelvin were sitting having a coffee wilts I was gouging myself with the McDonald's breakfast (not that it's what you call nourishing but good ti fill you up). I also wilts filling up seen Gary filling up his Disco on another fuel bowser so pretty much we were all there ready to take on Coffs once fed and watered.

The trip down was uneventful but rainy. It was looking a bit better when we reached Grafton but then as we got closer to Coffs it was back to that rainy look with a few patches of rain here and there as we reached Coffs. On the bullet front, it was playing mind games with the starter motor (turned out to be a dodgy positive cable to the battery I found out once I got home ) so it would click click a couple of times and then start but sometimes start as if theres not an issue then not at all then it wouldn't do a bloody thing I hate those sort of problems :mad::mad::mad::mad:. Not a big deal but bloody annoying all the same and you can't push start and auto either if it was to fail altogether :(

Once at Coffs, the thirsty V8's (Gaz and me) filled up again, caught up with Philippe, Eve and the kids after they had spent some time buying some new clothes for the kids with the persistent rain the day before had exhausted all there dry sets. Once all together as a group we headed off to Shane's property for our base camp. This a a great spot and worth another visit some point in the future plus cheap as well for $15 a night. Once we arrived at the campsite it was soggy after it had a fair whack of rain during the week as well as the day we arrived but we all got our tents/camper trailers up and we're keen for a drive for the arvo.

Gaz was keen to lead us astray at this point and had a few interesting tracks for us to tackle but not long after we left the rain started again  This was the bane of our existence all weekend and had hampered any effort to try some of the more challenging tracks but we had to do with what was safe and sensible. Still even with the lesser hardcore options it was a red/G4 trips in some instances so it wasn't any walk in the park at any point for out mere Land Rovers..

Anyway back on track, Gaz deiced to have a crack at Johns hill even after we we're told it was a no go hill but Gaza being Gaz had to have a crack in Cheeky. The track had a curve at a steep point which on slippery condition isn't a totally wise thing to attempt but Gaz was doing okay tail he suddenly ran out of grip. Cheeky did a slide backward but then gained momentum. At this point Kelvin had been standing behind Cheeky next to a rather old but massive tree stump but the rate of knots that Cheeky had took off backwards had Kelvin heading for the scrub at lightening pace. At this point, Cheeky headed for the tree stump which threatened to make Cheeky Australia's first bobtail D1 by default
Anyway, Gaz returned back onto more solid and safer ground and we found a couple of other off-shoots to have a go at that were safe.

We found another track that we had a good go at although all but Kelvin had to winch (thanks el-president Josh for the loan of the winch, it works well and got the dunga king seal of approval :twisted:). It had a rocky step-up which in dry condition was easy to drive up with no assistance if you chose the right line but with rain and now at this point getting heavier it was more a winch job for most. Anyway, got yo use my 'borrowed' winch at least before I remove it and return it back to it's rightful (and dormant ) owner :D.

After that episode, it was back to camp to find that Tim (long stroke) and his dad Rod turned up in the Disco and County respectively. Not long after Keith showed up on the orange Rangie Ute in tow behind his D2 to join in on the fun for the weekend. We had dinner and ready for the best part on a camping trip apart from the driving, the campfire. Me being me, it had to be on the big and hot side so on with the wood between sleeps in one case (Justin would call out 'wake up Trav, the fire is getting low' :D:D:D) and I would throw on another heap of timber. Once fed, watered and the like we had a visit from one of Gaza's Jeep mates, Wayne. This bloke is as one-eyed Jeep as I am a one-eyed rangie man, lets just say he's an 'interesting' character and I'll leave it at that but friendly enough (more on his Jeep adventure later). A few beers and yours truly dozing off in front of the fire as per GCLRO standard for any camping trip it was off to bed for another day of off-road excitement.

Saturday dawned and it was still cloudy, bugger, I was hoping for some sunshine  Never mind, this is the card we were dealt so we had to live with it and not let it dampen out spirit of adventure. After a hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs and sausages it was off for some more terrain to have a crack at. Sando, one of the local blokes was more than keen to point us in the right direction as well as Phill who we met last year on the trips in his 110 Defender running 35's and maxi drives all round with a few of his mates as well. Tim and Rod, of course, also local Coffs Harbor blokes so we we're not too worried where the good stuff was. It was decided that the driving would be more north of Coffs away from that awful red soil. Our first track I think was Morbid trail, nothing too hard but the last section the power mob had flattened the road, in the dry we would have whinged it was too easy but after rain with all that loose soil it was downright dangerous. Phill (another local Coffs bloke) and Gaz had a crack wilts Gaz had to winch the rest of the way. We opted for the alternative track and to be honest it was about on par although safer option. I was the last vehicle in the convoy at one point so I was more sliding than driving down hills but all good without incident.

All back and accounted for it was time to tackle a creek and a steep-ish hill (good V8 territory noise-wise ) It was a tad technical at the start with a dodging of a tree here and there and the steep finale with the bullet opening up at nearly full noise and trying to kill Kelvin again (if it wasn't Gaz it was me, sorry ) when the bullet grabbed for traction it was heading in kelvin's direction once again but all was good as I total control of the situation :(. All made it through and back in convoy to tackle another hill. This has a bit of a shelf with a tree stump which snagged all of us resulting in a re-altering on panels for some (gotta love a tray back hey Keith :)). As usual, I copped a dent in the rear qtr on the passenger side the size of a 50 cent piece and a scrape but the panel was already christened so it was just another trophy to take home :twisted::twisted: As usual we had a breakage, Phill in the 110 'Fender had broken his drivers side Cv joint. This wilts a simple job is always a bugger which takes time to remove and re-assemble. Justin on hand performed the CV joint removal with some help here and there but after about an hour it was off again for some more driving, a look at Commando (none of us mere mortals were keen to try, too many pucker moment for non-rollcage vehicles :eek::eek:) then lunch at the Cooramba pub. This is a great pub with good tucker and beer of course. The prices were reasnoble and it was better than a couple of sangers any day of the week.

After lunch, more trails, some detours and down, then up Jeep hill. This is another track we did last year that was more rutted out this time but the access road from ther bottom was wahsed away so it was down, then up Jeep hill. The track down had a couple of intersting points with the rain made the access from the top quite slippery but down, up Jeep hill with some good airtime from Philippe and myself it was all good and gave little trouble to all.

A few more tracks and once again it was back to camp for the campfire, Phill in the 110 headed off back home and did well in 3WD or rear wheel drive at times with that busted CV . Once tea had been cooked, eaten we had a impending visit from Wayne who was staying at Shane's house on the other side of the hill from where the campsite was in a lets say 'cheerful' mood and decided to take on the slippery and shortest route back to our campsite in his J10 Jeep. You could hear the roar of the 350 Chev in the background til Wayne come a cropper half-way down the hill and Gaz was off to the rescue with Kelvin in support. Gaz was having issues getting Cheeky up to Wayne to throw on the winch cable and get him back onto the track but after several attempts it was decided to leave the Disco and Waynes Jeep til the morninhg with more daylight. Anyway, back at camp, Wayne had a few more coldies and saeen totally at ease at th fact his beloverd Jeep was about to be rescued by a land Rover (maybe that's what the beer was for ). As usual, I was dozing off in front of the fire but eventually I was off to bed at around 10PM I think

Sunday was upon us and after breakfast it was off to rescue Wayne and his Jeep. Wayne, who was a tad on the seedy side, put on a brave face to assist in the rescue of his Jeep with Cheeky half-way up the hill. After getting the Jeep back onto the track and after walking up the hill and a heart attack later you can see how far Wayne had slid off the track . It took about 2 hours to get him back onto the track but all good in the end. Keith also was on hand and took the sensible option in his Rangie ute to pull the Jeep back up on top of the hill and down the other side which was safer and sesible alternative. Once sorted out, we still had some wheelng to do, we wern't going home without another drive, too far to just pack up and go home early. Philippe had taken off early as he had the 'in laws' to visit but the rest of us had taken off for a few hourts to do a few more tracks. I had Wayne as a passenger (this could of been interesting but nothing eventuated thankfully) but was okay so I was able to concentrate in my driving. One of the tracks that we done had a rickety old bridge which taken the wrong approiach could have been very interesting  But using some nous and taking it easy it was all good so off we went. A few off-camber bits andf some washed-out racks we had a look at Koala trail which about 4 years ago we had done with a 2002 Rangie L322 (drivesafes). These days it's for the foolhardy and possible 'grover teritory', too many off-camber, steep section for the bullet which was shaking in it's Federals :o

Anyway, a couple of off-shoots which Kelvin having a real crack at one it was time to get back to camp and pack up ready to head off back to the GC and Jimboomba fopr me (I had the longest distance to go, which is unusual :o). A stop at Hungry Jacks for a feed and on the road which was uneventful and a quick caffinbe fix at Woodburn we kept on truckinhg on til we all eventually got home.

This is a great trip and well worth the visit and as usual great company with skilled drivers. Once again, thanks to Sando, Tim and Rod for there expertise on the local tracks and to the people who turned up on the trip.

Okay, what we learned-

I still fall asleep in front of the fire and make it bigger than it should be :(
Justin, is they're anything you don't have on board :D:D
Jeeps and one well lubricated owner do not mix
Johns hill best done when it's not raining let alone wet
Kelvin has 9 lives, almost geting killed by a Rangie and a Disco

Anyway, til next time see you all later :):)

Tyre tracks going up the right hand side then up above the vertical step?

Thats pretty crazy!

Gary, what did you think of the KM2's?

I am a big BFG fan. They are a good choice for an all round tyre.
The BFG Mud Terrain is as forgiving on road as most All Terrains IMHO
Having said that I was a bit disappointed with the Km2 in one regard
It does not clear mud as well as I expected.
I believe that the Silverstone Sport scratched better in the Mud…

That said, I have come to believe that there is no perfect tyre for every condition.
For example for mud clearance you would want a centipede or some Claws.
But on rock centipede’s are not much chop. In fact this is one terrain that the KM2 really does well, I reckon better than the centipede.
On Jeep Hill Cheeky crawled all the way without even stopping once, the Km2 felt great.
For a trip to The Springs the KM2 is your tyre.

On the black stuff the BFG is great, quite, smooth and if the older KM is a guide will last and last.
The latter point is why I got them. Cheryl does lots of kilometers in Cheeky between club trips.
(Ok maybe not this week, it has taken me all week cleaning her and I still have the inside to do)
I would have purchased the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ except for the mileage issue. I was not confident MTZ’s would last.

I was at Brett's today he showed me the first Mazzis I like the look of, the Mudzilla. Thats an aggressive tyre.

A slight correction - Two disco owners and a bunch of kids ventured up the widow-maker hill - Kelvin was first though

Torquit as always attacked the hills - here is a rangie diff screaming at the hill to get out of the way!

We were the trailer pony in the crowd - with doggy auto heating issues we did not risk it also we left home with the MT117 Extremes on ready for Mud after confirming with Justin that might be needed and Eric suggesting same before we left.

Rangie made for great camping gear storage while on the trailer when coming down! So there are other uses for Rangies.

You wont be impressed with the mudzilla onroad ;)
You will cry at the rate of tread depletion :D

It's actually the only 4x4 maxxis tyre I wouldn't recommend (due to much better alternatives)

In saying the above offroad they did go pretty damn well, but what maxxis tyre doesnt .

I think the KM2s were an excellent choice Gaz ;)

awesome news what was it

It blew the head gasket accross the oil gallery at the back of the engine, so oil was flowing into number 4 cylinder:angel:
This pressurised the crank case and blew oil through the intercooler etc.
no wonder it was blowing so much smoke:D
