Just got back from trip to Karumba, toyota and nissan have the market cornered up that way, only saw 7 rovers all trip. Four of those in Karumba, a disco 2 pulling a charter boat, a defender [ great looking vehicle] doing same, a disco that had every panel damaged, must be chasing pigs or similar, and another disco tourist.Spoke to a bloke on a fishing trip with a patrol ute with 4.2 engine, he went to upgrade to new common rail diesel model and was told by the DEALER not to , as they were not as good as the one he had! My d2 td5 1999, 327000 kms. went great, I had prepared for all sorts of problems [ my first big trip] but was overjoyed by how well it went, the driving position in disco's is fantastic, they drive themselves. Haven't had it offroad yet, but we did have some serious water crossings to do on the Gregory development road --it did it easy. So far it's all good with our d2 ! Bob10 [biggrin]:twobeers:

Paul, I'm not really conversant with defender models, but it was a twin cab ute, white, very straight, I would say a later version of the type, long wheel base. Bob10

Bob,
sounds like the niece's 130. The charter boat would be "Kerry D" or "Sandy Belle" from Kerry D Charters. Hope you had a great trip.

On the money Paul, it was the Kerry D , whilst the men fished off the beach, some of the girls went out on her. The driver of the boat, when suggesting it was kareoke time, but only slim dusty, was surprised when our neice burst into " lights on the hill ", she also caught a large shark. Not surprising when you consider she has been fishing since she could walk. We had a comp., boaties v beachies, boaties won , we ate fish for a week.Twiggy, a mate of ours who used to be radio operator for Raptis in the nineties, was surprised to see photos he had taken on the wall of the office used to sell seafood to the public -- he took us to the animal bar, quiet now but will be jumping when all the Raptis boats come in at the end of November. Another of our mob caught up with a bloke he used to work with, named John, who will only fish at Sweers isle., a mere 130 km's away! All in all we had a great time and will be back, next time I will take my boat, some likely crab country around there. I think this time of year is the best to go , not so many people, although you have to keep a good eye on the weather --- had a great thunder and light show the night before we left. Cheers Bob10
