Right in the middle of discussing pros and cons of fitting Davies-Craig fan to my car, I've been given a dual thermo fan unit off a BA falcon. It looks like it will just fit in sweet. has anyone fitted one of these to a td5?

can't help you with the fitment...but they are heaps better than the Davies Craig

I can't help either, but I have been considering something similar now it is starting to warm up - If you get them fitted, post some pics and a 'How To'

I have a bit of a write up of fitting AU fans to a v8 here:

Don't know how different the TD5 radiator is but it gives you an idea of what's involved.
Steer clear of Davies Craig, I have never heard anything good about their fans as replacements for a shrouded engine driven fan. I was looking into them and a custom sheet metal shroud before I started reading that they were pretty average and that the falcon thermo's are far easier to fit, as well as being much more effective.
edit* as far as pro's go, air con is actually cold in the summer while idling at traffic-lights. Haven't found a con yet as since fitted there;s nothing they ant do that an engine driven fan could. My experience is only with the V8 though not the TD5.

I fitted an AU twin fan setup to my V8 disco I with 4.6 fitted to it. Was perfect during winter but on the couple of hot days this week going up the M1 out of adelaide I hit 106c took it off as soon as the engine cooled and put the viscous fan back on. I dont believe the concept was a failure but the AU did not work.

My cooling system had a complete overhaul, new radiator, flushed the engine, new viscous coupling etc, even then and idling in 38 degrees in peak hour I would get up to 225 degrees F on the vdo gauge I installed (107 degrees), aircon would cut out and condensor fans would kick in.
Thermo's in my case were quite capable of holding the temp at 200 F or 93-94 degrees in peak hour on a hot day. It can creep up when under heavy load (high range in soft sand) but no more than when I had the viscous fan on. It may be the 4.6 pumps out considerably more heat than the 3.9.
