Just couldn;t believe my eyes tonight watching 4wd tv. Just can't believe that these cars are actually road legal in the states. No doors, nobody wearing seat belts, MASSIVE lifts, kids riding n the back of utes on the road.
I think our rules are sometimes intrusive, but I'm pretty happy that these vehicles are restricted to competitions here.
I should add here that some of these trucks are awesome off road

because "no doors, no seatbelts, kids riding in the back of utes" doesnt sound right. i could be wrong because different states have different laws but all of those are illegal where i am...

Ok, I think it is time to discuss why we buy 4x4's. Is it to trick them up to go anywhere they can , or is it to take them where we want to go. Is it to take our family and friends to places we will remember for as long as we live, or is it to to gain bragging rights , mine is bigger than yours. I would like to know how many people in this forum are weekend warriors, strutting their stuff, or are people who want to explore our beautiful country , it seems to me, most of the toyota and nissan drivers in this country are seduced by a group of magazine writers who dance to the tune of companies who say you must have all sorts of after market stuff to travel in remote areas. have a look at photo's from the 1920's, and you can see that is a load of bull. Interested to see yor opinions, Bob10 :2up::D

It's episode 249, but it's not viewable on the website yet. At the moment you can only watch up to 244...... 4WD TV (http://www.4wdtv.com.au/)

The 4 door thing at the start initially looked like it had no doors but later on it was shown to have skeleton frames (?) as doors.
Love those Mall Crawlers - didn't Simon take the **** out of them !!

I agree, the modern 4wd is so full of gadgets its now point and shoot, many people out there have, to put it bluntly, F all driving ability. They rely solely on the their new powerful engines, traction aids, down hill braking assist and lockers to name a few gadgets. Don't get me wrong things like lockers make 4wd a hell of a lot easier and safer with less chance of damage to ones vehicle, however many of the skills of picking lines etc are being lost. The perennial tourer has them the weekend warrior is likely to.
as state go back 10, 20, 40 years and this country was still being explored with much simpler vehicles.
Just my 2 cents though.:p

I reckon those 'skeleton doors' would be just dandy in a rollover. Just imagine a stick coming through and impaling someone:eek: Not to mention the limbs that might happen to stick out through them and getting crushed!
