I would appreciate it if someone could identify this car. The pic was taken around 1940 (+/- 5 years) in Sydney.

If it is the one above then it was available in Sedan, Coupe and Convertable, the convertible was dubbed the "Beauty Winner"

1936 Dodge D2 in six and 8 inline cylinders

Well before 1940. I'll agree with UncleHo. '36 Dodge. Good bit of kit, better than the Chev. of the time and a far better car than the '36 Ford .

No idea but I assume not as he's a distant relative and there's never been any sign of wealth in my family tree:(

I have looked and looked at that original photo. Not a good photo and the man is blocking sight of the principal identifying feature, the grille. It is definitely a 1935 or 1936 Dodge.

The 1935 blue Dodge pictured does not have the correct bumper bar. Looks like a 1936 bar. The correct item has a downwards curve between the over-riders. The over-riders are either from a Pontiac of a couple of years later or an accessory after-market item.

The 37 Dodge on carsales looks like an Australian Richards body vehicle,as it has 1/4 windows in the front doors, the other vehicle in the first post looks like it is the US Budd bodied model, and may even be a Chrysler, as the Chrysler Corp (US) shared similar bodies across their range and also had serveal models and wheelbases, but the Australian vehicles,Dodge Plymouth,DeSoto,Chrysler, all used the same Richard's (S.A.) bodies offered on one wheelbase, which was often used over several years with only minor modifications these Australian built vehicles were on sale along with the imported vehicles,as was the case with the 57-62 Chrysler Royal Sedans, which used the body shell of the 51-56 Dodge/Plymouth sedan with new (aust) front and rear pressings, were on sale at the same time as Dodge Custom Royals,DeSoto Firesweeps,Plymouth Belvederes and the Aust built light commercials also shared the same cab on several models 49-59 Dodge,DeSoto,Fargo,International.

cheers

Pile of pus. Triumph (Standard) Mayflower. 8 RAC horsepower. About 20 bhp. 800cc four cylinder side valve. Couldn't pull a greasy stick out of a dog's bum. Late 40's-early 50's. The Renown was the bigger look alike with the Vanguard 2088cc OHV engine.
