From an oldie's point of view this latest GCLRO outing was a resounding success and a hearty round of credit is due to all and sundry who partook in the organisation, logistics, behind the scenes help, cleaning up and general running of the function, along with the supporters, sponsors, and also the members who made an effort and offered support simply by being there and supplying numbers.
Take a bow everyone!
Friday afternoon saw a gradual build up of attendees turning up and staking claims to their spots and the designated area began to hum with life and a lot of Land Rover based conversations.
One or two somewhat bewildered 'non believers' blundered in to our designated area and possibly woke up on Saturday morning, surrounded by hordes of landies, wondering what the heck had happened overnight.
We were amongst the earlier of those to turn up and grabbed a nice shady spot down under the trees and, (so we thought) far enough away from the planned festivities.

We quietly went about our nocturnal feeding duties and then sat around the Jordan's little "Arken Flarken" and enjoyed a quiet red and a sedate sip of muscat or two then decided to retire round about midnight or so.

There had been no "official fire" set up on the Friday, so on the demise of the "Oldies" at around midnight or so, the younger set decided that it would be a good idea to move the "Arken Flarken" (which by this time had been allowed to die down to some magnificent toasting coals) next door and rekindle a "signal flare" (possibly visible by satellite) and continue on a little later into the night.
Saturday morning arrived along with one or two relatively "less than perfect condition" heads around the camp site and then the festive activities preparation teams swung into action.
The "official Fire" was lit in the centre of the "flat area" to supply hot coals for the "spit" that reportedly was on its way.
The spit arrived, complete with one very capable "operating crew" and the lamb carcass was prepared and fitted and the cooking process began.

Unfortunately, even the best laid plans of mice and men can go astray and this was true of this particular operation as apparently the fully floating automatic, hydromatic, pneumatically controlled transmission fitted to the fully blown electronic driven motor operating the spit had just run out of extended warranty and failed to cooperate in the manner it was intended. Luckily there was ample technical support people handy and the problem was soon rectified.

Meanwhile back in the tent lines and else where others were also very busy

Ladies were busy cutting up Cole Slaw, Salad, and hot potatoes, and slicing and administering finishing touches to the sweets that were to follow, and meanwhile people were sitting around at civilised seating arrangements enjoying an "entree" of sausage sandwiches whilst awaiting the promised lavish feast which was definitely "fit for Royalty".

The AGM was fitted in somewhere around 1600hrs or so, followed by a club donated raffle (in which I was fortunate enough to win a great prize!) and this was followed by a selection of sliced Cheese cakes, carrot cakes, chocolate crackles, slices and other goodies, to round off the day.
There was a great assortment of vehicles present and one of the aspects of the GCLRO that I value most of all, is the diversity of interests held by members of this club, catering to all tastes from the "hard Core" rock tamers types, the everyday "workhorse-suburban taxi" types, the "long range tour" people to the old "vintage historic" collector types, and the fact that all these different interests and tastes are catered for under the commonality of the one single brand name, by this club, is no mean feat at all.

With this in mind, the "Leaf sprung" element of the club was very well supported this year with no less than 7 vehicles of this genre attending!

Just thought I would finish this epistle with one or two shots of what was possibly the oldest attendee along side the youngest,

and last but but by no means least, a shot that shows the promise that the support of the Land Rover marque will most possibly be carried on to the next generation.
