HI. Just bought a reversing camera off ebay. It's a wire in jobby, not a wireless. Supposedly a quality one, had been factory fitted to a Landcruiser by Toyota. Don't know why they would have had it removed but anyway. I know all the buyer beware stuff but this cost me $50 so I got nothing to lose..

Anyhooooo, it has the Monitor at one end, and at the other end of course the little camera. Has the harness and a socket for each at either end. There is a red and black wire down the back of the harness where the camera plugs in, and a single red wire at the monitor end? I thought it was strange the power leads were at the rear end but on reflection probably easier to find a pos and neg at that rear of the vehicle than muck around in the dash. The single red wire at the monitor end has me stumped though? Has anyone had any experience with these?

Its an older b&W Polaris CM 35 by the way. Apparently the power cable is at the rear to connect to the reversing light. Still don't know what the extra red wire at the front is for though. I hooked it up to my car charger and the screen lit up but couldn't get any functions etc

Fender22,
Just taking a Stab in the dark...
The camera itself doesnt have a light by chance to illuminate the area to see in the dark, It just may be a Park Light wire...;)

Cheers

On some aftermarket cameras, the power is fed from the reverse light circuit, so the whole show comes on once you put the vehicle in reverse. The single red wire on the monitor sounds like a power feed from the front - it may be grounded from the rear, and this may be an additional power feed for using it for other purposes - GPS, etc.

Cheers - Gav.

Hi

On my reversing camera setup there is a wire and I cant remember what colour that acts as a trigger to turn on on the monitor and set the view to AV2.

On my setup i have the camera and the trigger wire receiving power from the positive side of the reversing alarm. The monitor receives power from the cig connector in the cab.

Regards
Allan
