Tyre question?

Got some excellent Puma mag rims today for my 93 Defender (thanks Nugget!). I have 6 brand new tyre's on my steel rims.
7.50R16LT 693 Dueller AT's.

Was wondering if these tyres would fit on the Puma rims? The rims are marked 75 x 16EH2-33

I'm guessing they wouldn't look as good as wider tyres but I may as well get the use out of them?

They do fit but it's quite marginal & some tyre shops will argue that they're too narrow for the rims.
6" is better but LR don't make alloys in that width.


Personally, I've been using 7.50R16s on my 7" alloys for years without a problem.

What happened to tyre people? They don't even like repairing a puncture anymore. Always trying to sell you a new tyre.

Because the rims are marked 75 x 16, I thought that would mean they were 7.5" rims?

I don't know what the 75 refers to but it isn't width.

All D1, RRC & Defender alloys made by LR are 7".

7.5 inches, around 200mm in the new language.

The D1 had 205R16 (205mm) tyres on 7" rims as an option, so don't be too worried. The only problem may exist when trying to seat the bead with a new tyre...:o

Apparently even though my tires on the steel rims are new, they still have tubes in them. The tyre guys said that was normal? Is that a 4WD precaution? Seems like you would be better off to have the secondary security of tubes but I'm a dumba$$ :-)

The Landrover steel rims are a non safety rim and req tubes to enable proper fitment. There is basically no 'bead' to seat the tyre on and seal in air like a tubeless one. They will accept tyres without tubes though, but will more than likely leak either through the rivets or around the bead.

The exception are some late Wolf type rims that are marked tubeless, they have a 'safety bead' and can be run at low pressures without coming off the bead.
