Hi - I just had my 130 single cab serviced (2010 model) and was talking to an employee of the dealership who had just been to a land rover workshop. He saw my vehicle was fitted with a safari snorkel and told me that at the workshop they were told that fitting a snorkel was pointless as the original intake chamber under the guard was perforated which allows water ingress. Anyone have any experience of this or information about it. Would hate to think the intake was safe due to the fitting of the snorkel only to find that this was true.

It is possible to seal these correctly to stop water getting into the air intake. I think some installers are just lazy, try to make a quick quid and don't seal the more difficult areas. They only seal the areas you can see which are easy to get at. They get around any litigation problems by describing the snorkel as a raised air intake, which isn't the reason why 99% of people get them.
If you know your installer, I would question them as to the sealing and try to get some sort of guarantee of workmanship. I wish you luck.
Some installers are excellect and do the right thing.
On page 2 of our Puma post, I have photos of exactly this issue.

Thanks Erich - Your pictures help to see what's there, will be having a close look at mine and talking with the installer. Thanks for your help!

Erich's advice, as always, is sound.
You could also talk to Gordon at Opposite Lock in Sydney. He fitted a Safari Snorkel to my Puma and dispensed with everything original between where the snorkel meets the guard and the air box with a single piece hose and sealed the hole in the airbox.
