Has anyone modded the rear seat box of a Puma 130 yet.

Am thinking of a lockable hinged flap from the side/front to be used as storage.

If so pics would be great.

Does the puma not have a lift of top like the earlier ones??

No it doesn't and I didn't think the Td5 had either.

I know there is at least one Puma with a box fitted getting around in South Australia but don't have any details.

hmmm well our's has the removeable top like every other 130 defender I have seen...a latch at each end, top comes off and you can fit all youre spare parts in there for a long trip...our seats are usually removed for a long trip anyway so easy access;):D

Unfortunately Mrs HH it's one big box with no openings, but it sounds hollow. I was wondering if I could shove a fuel tank in there, but a big parts and pole box could be good.

well next time you see us have a look at ours didn't realize they dropped the opening in the top, wouldn't be to much hassle to change I would suspect;):D

I had a water bladder made to measure for the storage area, with the filler located under the single fold up seat. I guess you could stick a fuel tank / bladder in there also.

Yep...you can squeeze a 60 litre water tank in there.....I have just done so. My 300Tdi has a an opening on the top of the box.

Here are some pics I found on another forum, but gives you an idea. This is from a TD5

wow that's looks like it would make a good fuel tank as well perhaps. Front Runner do one apparently, but I'm having troubles finding out more details.

Where did you pick it up and how much if you don't mind.

Frontrunner do a 62L under rear seat box one......I have the emailed fitting instructions from them....the pics are very similar to the water tank, except no angled edges..... PM me and I will attach the doc for you to have a look at.

Atlas Tanks do custom made poly tanks. Mine was around $380 +GST.

Go to www.atlastanks.com.au (http://www.atlastanks.com.au)

They are located at Kunda Park on the Sunshine Coast North of Brisbane.

Andrew was it you I was speaking to at Defender Day Out about this?

Is the tank baffled ?

Can't remember meeting you Vlad....I was parked down near the water next to the British Off Road crew

I just gave the measurements via Atlas's website (which if very useful)to build the tank. It has a strengthening section across the middle (on the outside), but I am unsure if it is baffled. I can't hear any water sloshing around when I am in the car driving (but with the standard 300 tdi noise...who can hear anything!!)

Cheers Andrew

Andrew,
How do you drain from the custom tank. It's sits on the floor, have you drilled a hole somewhere, use a pump, whats your plan. Also to fill it, have you plumbed and external fill, of just poke a hose inside the vehicle.

thanks

Hi Andrew,

nice to see my truck here :o:D
It´s a 2009 Puma (130CC-R) though ;)

I fitted the Front Runner 62L fuel tank in there. It´s a tight fit but it´s working just fine.

Here´s the fitting of the FrontRunner tank step-by-step as published on another forum....

The new Defenders have the same box underneath the rear seats and Frontrunner was the only manufacturer that I could find who currently offers a tank that fits exactly inside.

It´s a pretty quick installation, too (once you have the tank).

Take out the rear seats and the box...

....Marc had used his box as storage before, too....
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/12/1274.jpg

...after positioning the tank you make the rear cutout for the feed to the original tank...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/12/1275.jpg

...place it...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/12/1276.jpg

...and put the cover back on...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/12/1277.jpg

...into which you have already made the cutout for the filler and breather....
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/12/1278.jpg

...with all that done and the box screwed back in place (it´s a very tight fit, which guarantees the tank is not going to move. It´s screwed down by two M8 bolts on either side, too) you make the cutout into the rear side...
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2010/12/1279.jpg

...and last, take out the original tank to drill a hole and install the feeder plug. Then replace the tank and connect the auxilliary tank with the original tank...

In addition, we also extended the original breather tube and placed it higher up.

Ready to go.

So long,

Robert

Hi, I cut out the top of mine and fitted a deep cycle aux battery there under the seat as well as tools and spares. Did not worry about a lid. Can retrieve tools etc without tilting the seats. Cheers.
