Baldrick got his new exhaust Friday, nice mandrel bent 3" jobby. It's a turbo back system and damn has it made some difference in the driving ability. The turbo lag is a lot less, more power and a nice note to boot. Plus the spooling turbo noise. Not to loud to hurt my baby boys ears, but nice. I had it done at "Performance exhaust" in ringwood, Vic. That plus the chip makes it a quick jigger. I'm a happy camper

Love the chassis sandblasting from 9 years in WA mining region and the wimmera in Vic. Was an ex land surveyers car

If you mean Perth, Hans-On-Exhausts at Maddington did my 3" mandrel for a very good price.
Clarkie - Looks great! - IRC it was claimed in another thread that one of the "expert" Td5 tuners says that anything over 2.5" will overspeed the turbo... ???

In our case it's probably cheaper to make our own than go to Perth. The pipes including bends can be bought on line, you just need a mig. Pat

You can ONLY overspeed the turbo if you fit a hyclone to the end of the 3" pipe!!!!

Optimum for a TD5 is 2.75"
Overboost and overspeeding are common with 3". But does depend on the muffler.
The aftermarket turbo guys won't warranty the units with a 3" pipe.

Performance Exhaust also did my V8 county 2 years back. It's an awesome sounding system. Cleans the wax out of your ears at about 3600rpm. A few of you heard it at greendale last year. And on 4wdTV. I do need to post some videos of it in tassie on Balfour track and a dune climb. Makes me grin every time I drive it. Made the guys on the spirit of tassie jump as I started it to leave the boat. Lol

Whats optimum for a 300 ? I've been wanting to drop the resonator and muffler on my 130 and run a straight pipe.

A 4BD1T.....:p:D
I'd drop the centre muffler and leave the resonator, The standard system isn't too restrictive really for a 300Tdi, unless running a VNT and lots of tweaks...

A 3inch mandrel bent system with one muffler (taipan xp) made a huge difference to my 300tdi 110. the fuel was tuned at the same time.
Sclarke, do you have a EGT gauge? if so is it pre or post turbo?
cheers,
Serg

No egt. Some cars I prefer not to know what goes on. It's more a worry than a security
I just like an accurate temp gauge and a oil light that works. Lol
I'm my past rally cars I've had oil temps and volts and amps and gearbox temps ect. It's all destracting. If it's out of the recommended range you start to worry. I prefer to not worry about a higher than normal reading for 10 mins. I may fit an egt, but as mine in exhaust and chipped, if it's high on normal driving. Not much you can do. I don't tow so it's not working hard. The past 300tdi I had I had a egt and fueled up alot. It never hit 650 unless I was flogging it up a very long hill like the one from dargo to talbotville. That tests all cars temps. 15 min constant climb. My last defender could not climb it in 3rd high. It is not kind on cars.

Do a google search or better yet go on ebay,in the performance mods section you can buy just about anything. The Tdi exhaust is simple so should be a sinch to make. Pat

Just time, and some 10mm rod for the new hangers, and a transition for the 2.5" dump to 3" pipe, and some 3" flanges and gaskets and a lot of welding ;)
There's a thread here somewhere of my 3" system on a Tdi and i wouldn't say it was simple, it took a fair bit of time.

No. That was taken at the tail pipe. Lol. All my readings are taken from pre turbo. Or port temp

After a run to Mildura over Xmas. I'm
Proud to say it's quiet and the economy is as I expected. Never missed a beat and only on low speeds can you hear the exhaust and turbo noise. So it's improvement is worth while
