newell hwy

im travelling from hervey bay to ballarat vic on wednesday and plan to use the newell hwy does anyone know if its passable at the moment as nerandra and forbs seem to be in doubt with flooding otherwise i might have to change routes

that has all the roadblocks and diversions.its updated daily.

As Disco gazza said. My guess is that it will be open by Wednesday (even if it is not at present - the Newell is raised well above the flood plain wherever it was prone to flooding) - the section through Dubbo reopened last night, although there was a workaround which has resulted in severe damage to local roads and traffic congestion). But be aware that there will be serious road damage and roadworks at numerous locations throughout the length of the highway. These will involve delays and lowered speed limits, so perhaps planning to do the trip in one day is being a bit optimistic.

Depending on road conditions in Qld and New England, I would consider using the New England Highway and cutting across to the Newell via Gunnedah and Coolah, but there will be no avoiding slowdowns once you get into the areas of recent flooding. Despite this, I would think that these inland routes would still be quicker than the Pacific/Hume routes, and certainly less stressful.

Where are you planning to spend the night, and what sort of accommodation? (Declaration of interest - my nephew runs a motel in Dubbo!) Note that in areas where there has been flooding, many caravan parks will have been flooded and may not have accommodation available - they tend to be on river flats.

thanks for the offer i plan to get further than dubbo hopfully close to the vic border
i have recieved other news that there dosnt seem to be any major problems around nerandra as of today so i might still go the newell as i was going to go the coast rd due to the floods
