Just bought a 2005 TDV6 HSE and am over the moon with it!

We have driven back from Melbourne (where we bought it) to the Sunshine Coast and although the journey was trouble free, one thing is bugging me.

After switching the engine on there is a short 'bong' but nothing is displayed in the info' centre. This isn't the same as a warning chime and happens about 15 secs after starting up.

Probably a simple explanation, but can't find this in the manual.

Any ideas?

That's just the computer finishing it's start up checks.

If it has bluetooth, could be the phone connecting

dangermousehouse,
The 'bong' depends on where you were on the Sunshine Coast.
If you were in the hinterland, it may have been a warning that you were near one of those funny green plant crops!!!!!
Cheers, Craig

Mine makes the same sound. I've never been able to work out what it is.

The only thing I can think of is the seat belt warning. I've disabled the seat belt chime so maybe it dings once to remind you to put it on.

Is it a warning bong or a "Warning! - Bong". If the latter these would make ideal police vehicles.

Jamo is right on the money. ;)

I always wait for the D3 to "bong" signalling that it has completed its "start up" checks before starting the motor.

Best Wishes,
Peter

Thanks guys, sounds like a normal 'bong'......actually it could be described as a 'barp'. Still makes my heart skip when I hear it, though!

Unfortunately Disco4se, this bong doesn't leave me ravenous and laughing hysterically at mundane things.....shame, that

OK, now there is the 'Bong' that signals the end of the start up computer checks. Some wait for this before actually cranking the starter as they have had minor glitches if they don't. I never had a problem.

If the noise is more like a 'Barrp" and it appears to be coming from the centre colsole, then it's the classic D3 fart. It's caused by the recirc valve thingy opening and closing.

Hmmm....I'm gonna need to find the words to describe this proper!

If it is the 'fart', can something be done so it doesn't fart so I know that it is in fact the classic D3 fart......seriously.

Yep, you can pull half the dash off, grease the sucker and puit it all back:o.

If it's the recirc fart you can get it to happen at any time by turning recirc on and off.

If it's the start up boing, it will only happen at start up.

You get used to the fart. it becomes part of the car's character and becomes a source of endless amusement for young kids and immature adults:p

More regular fibre might help, but if it has been bonging too much you never know :D

OK....got to the bottom of this.....

The 'bong' comes from the radio to let me know that it's in 'phone mode'. Not sure what this means, though, and the message only flashes for a second or two.

(The bong wasn't the fart after all, although, I've managed to get it to do this as well).

Bongs, farts....this Landie has got them all!
