Hi all :D
I'm in the middle of writing a Review of the Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme.
I have had the plessure to use this equipment for a while now but the review is still in progress and I would love to get some suggestions and questions that can be added to my review.

Grammar and spell police are also welcome but then I want corrections, not just criticism. ( I'm Swedish  after all )

A prolouge to the review can be found here Range Rover P38 Maintenance repair improvements and tips learned by experience by ownership. (http://www.stockholmviews.com/p38/index.html)
And the actual review in progress can be found here: Range Rover P38 Maintenance repair improvements and tips learned by experience by ownership. (http://www.stockholmviews.com/p38/faultmate-review.html)

I would love to hear from you.

Hi Stefan.

I think the faultmate (MSV2 Extreme in my case) is one of the most necessary pieces of equipment for a Land Rover owner. I think the quality of the product is first rate and as a P38 owner it makes the perfect accompaniment for any trip. I would recommend one to anyone and everyone.

However, i find the forums for owners that Black Box solutions supplies a shocking way to provide customer backup. I find myself feeling belittled and a nuisance from the attitude of the Black Box Solutions (BBS) staff because i am not an electrical or computer engineer. Yes, they do say to have some basic understanding of how to operate a computer and i do. For instance, they do not categorically say use a Windows XP computer only. As a mac user i bought a laptop just for the faultmate whilke i was waiting for delivery and i couldnt get an XP machine. So after it arrived and i found out you needed an XP machine i wasted $500....

I also dont think they have kept up with the latest computers in still using an RS232 port. Find a computer with one of those now??!! I have the utmost respect for the product and the engineering that went into it. I do think though, that they need to do one HELL of a lot of work on customer care.

One HELL of a lot. For instance on my P38 they give you a selection in vehicle explorer to turn your ignition to stage 2 and then start engine. Neither works on my system or car. No help from BBS staff, simply a reply that "It works on our test BECM... this is a low priority for us as it isnt diagnostic... we are unable to do much at this time to help..." Well, if i got a problem with my ignition circuit, it sure as hell will be diagnostic. So after spending $1500 on my set up i feel like im alone with it with little to no customer support.

As is said though, i definately recommend buying one. Just be aware you are on your own.
