Yes, another tyre question

I have an SVX Defender and am about to put new coopers on.

Current tyres are 235/85/16 with a rolling diameter of 808mm.

Can anyone confirm if I can get away with fitting 265/75/16? Rolling diameter is close enough at 813mm.

I have standard rims and suspension. I just don't want to find they foul the body or suspension. I don't to fit the body or make any other changes.

I've got 265/75/16 Goodyear Wranglers on standard rims on a Puma - no clearance issues, though I suspect I'd be pushing it to fit snow/mud chains on the rears.

BTW, I have nothing but praise for the Goodyears.

You would be wise to ask around about Coopers. H/T have good reports, it's the ST'S that are the issue. It seems there are a high number of tread separation.

You would be wise to ask around about Coopers.

Many people have had total failures without warning. I had them and one delaminate going down the highway. Quality control seems a huge issue - people either find that they are great or they fall apart, risking your life, your families life, the lives of anyone else one the road near you. Oh, and your landy.

I now have BFGs, and love them.

Just to let you know I fitted 255/85 maxi bighorns to my 02 def 110 extreme wagon(on standard alloys) last year and it had the original suspension(read sagging badly at the front) with a LR/ARB bullbar pulling it down further and had no rubbing issues.I am not sure if the svx has less clearance than a normal def. but it should be the same.
I have since fitted a 2in lift via gwyn lewis , dobinson and OME shocks to fix the sagging and give a bit more flex.;)

I got a good price on a set (5) Mickey Thompson MTZ's in 265/75/16.

They are great. Look good, slightly softer ride (baggier I guess) and the kicker is that they now make the speedo read the same as the GPS. Where the original always read a few % under, this now reads within 1 or 2 kph.:)

Son and I go hunting on Monday so will be able to stress test them in the mud a little.

I really appreciate all the advice and you all stopped me making what would have been a mistake. It was also on here that i got the advice about the MTZ's.

good choice. I ran MTZ's on my H3 and they were great. Just fitted to the 110 and look forward to an equally good run. Love them offroad.

you shouldn't be disappointed with the MTZ they are really awesome.
I ran them on my D2 and never got stuck. great on road too. Just ebayed them tho:o
I'll be running Km2s on the puma tho:p

So went hunting the trip did not go too well. Once we arrived at Bongo forest to start a walk, we drove down a service road a km or two. I have to say the tyres feel great and being a little baggier softened the corrugations very nicely.

What pressure are you running in them? My placard says 50 psi in the rear and 30 in the front. I have bout 38 in the front and 48 in the rear. the fornt still feels a little soft. Anyway, the story....

Once stopped I notice a flat rear tyre.:mad: On a new MTZ, nearly made me cry. Swapped out for the spare to find the tyre had been spiked through the middle of the tyre, not the sidewall, by a tree root, old branch or some such. No evidence of the offender. Must have just happened as there was no evidence of sidewall stress.

By the look of it, they might not be able to repair it. It is a bit rough around the edges. I must have hit something weird as there were two other locations at the base of tread blocks with signs of similar trauma.

Not liking to be stuck out there will no spare we called the trip. i will get it repaired or replaced tomorrow and head back out on Thursday. Lucky it is so close.
