Thanks Juddy! :)
The second one is a stage one and the doors on the side are for jerry cans batteries. Have to say I don't like the rear design of the tarps on the NZ stage 1 but it's hard to see in these images.
Does anyone know what the trapdoors are on the side of the 110 are for?

I thought (from memory) the NZM bought something like 250 6x6 and 6x4 pinzgauers in 2005.............

Nope not for jerry cans. They are for battery banks, two 12V batteries on each side, plus two under the passenger seat. Jerry cans sit in a rack that attaches to the tail gate.
Not sure what you mean by the `rear design of the tarp.' The design of the tilt is standard Land Rover although some were made in Christchurch but to nearly the same design.

The 110 is ex-air force and only the air force bought them. The guy had three of them (they are within 5 minutes walk from where I live). They are in pretty good nick but he is asking to much for them (12 g's), considering they only made about 6 g's at auction but even a used car dealer has to buy bread too. The air force gear has been fairly hastily ripped out of them so the interior is not great and there are cut and exposed wires hanging out where radios, etc. were fitted.
The winches looked like they had been barely used and there was no rust in any of the vehicles. The air force know how to look after their stuff well.
The `trap doors' are storage lockers. Not for any specific purpose, unlike the Stage 1's.

That would be about the right time frame or perhaps earlier than that to allow for decommissioning of the old Landies which ended about four years ago.
Seen the SAS guys in their 6x6's in Papakura. Pretty impressive sight.
Got to say I'd like one of them Pinzgaurs but the workshop boys don't like working on them too much apparently. A lot of plating to take off before you can get at the bits that need attention.

Thanks for the heads up on the lockers, was told by by someone who usually knows about these things that the bulges on the UK MoD vehicles were for jerry cans so assumed the Kiwi ones to be the same.
The tarp I have seen in other images had a drawstring at the rear a bit like the Oz Internationals (below)

All gone as far as I am aware, unless you count those at the Waiouru Army Museum, such as this Series 1 (http://www.armymuseum.co.nz/military-hardware/restoration.html).
Actually until these ones came up from the air force no one actually realised they had them so it is possible there may some other hidden gems on some base, somewhere.

Hmm, well there is a line that pulls the top corners around but that is a standard design feature. For example on mine I have a cab and 3/4 tilt instead of the full tilt. The tilt is a Land Rover manufactured one and you can that it has the tied corners below.

The ones I am talking about the two little diagonal lines that are tied off against the rear sticks. This clever little arrangement keeps the whole top of the tilt nice and tight around the corners of the frame.

Yup that's the standard Land Rover designed type, very similar to the Au Mil spec although the Aussie ones don't have plastic windows.
The NZ mil one I remember was on a stage 1, the drawstring was incorporated up both sides and across the top where the OEM Land Rover one is only at the top and it didn't have the little pockets at the rear sides where the edges of the back flap go through.
I like the OEM Land Rover ones, but was not impressed with the other NZ one I saw.
Mind you it may have been home made after it's Kiwi Army service, who knows! :)

Me too :) The knots and things somehow make it all the more pleasant.
Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall seeing one as you describe it. There were a few variations where the army tried to get local suppliers to supply tilts and some were ``not that good.'' Quite a few were made from various synthetics, including one PVC one I saw. Can't say I liked them at all. I much prefer canvas for strength, durability, UV resistance,... All it needs is an annual coating of water proofing agent :)

That's petty much want I remember of this one, in fact the fit all over was quite poor. It reminded me of a potatoe sack rather than a neat and tidy Land Rover tarp.
Not Parade Condition at all! :o
