Thats insane fuel economy from such a large vehicle? Is that what others average?

I've checked the speedo to my Navman and allowed for the 5k difference in the speedo. That's city miles with the air con on. Checked it 4 times

Yep and 300tdi gets same but quieter...

Td5 more power less economy

td6 much more power better economy

tdv6 same

tdv8 more power and same economy as td6....

td5 is the only one that goes astray

and petrol v8's awful awful and a pinch of lpg too still be awful... but sound GREAT

I have a Td5 110 normal for a fillup put in around 60 litres in the tank and around town always get 690-720k's range.

Awsome economy I thought:)

td5 deefers can crack the 9l/100 mark..
Big red did often (when on highway runs anyway) and that was after it was chipped.
9.5k/L is about or just better than average refine your driving technique and turn off the aircon and you'll break the 10k/L mark maybe even the 10.5 mark.

My 200TDi Defender got 10km/l around town, even with the A/C on.
Will have to check it again though, haven't checked since the 4.1 ratio change.

I still laugh when my Td6 use's 10ltres and under even though it's hauling 2.5tons around.Neither of the 1HZ troopy's I had could better 15ltres/100 and both needed a tailwind to overtake anything faster than a kid on a pushbike. Pat

I'm currently getting around 11L/100km. Not sure if the taller tyres (255/85R16) have effected it, but I'm sure the roof-rack ain't helping!

10.98L/100km from my 93 RRC V8 3.9 on my last trip :P

Make sure you are comparing apples with apples
we have litres/100 and km/litre mixed in together here.

Why do people still use km/l instead of the international l/100km?

Why do all the diesel owners feel the need to show off in front of the petrol v8 owners

:D:D:D
Why not:p:p:):)
My D2 easily does under 10l/100k on a run.Not towing anything & nothing on the roof.Normally around 9.3l/100.Lightly loaded & on a run to Rocky, got 8.8l/100,which is the best i have ever had out of a TD5.
Around town isn't real good,around 11.5 to 12.5l/100k.

I don't know about that!!!!! Using a total of 110L from Sydney to Brisbane- 950km. is pretty amazing for a v8!!!!! :p oh and there were many road works along the way

Something wrong there I suggest, even when off roading I never get more than 12l/100.
Its strange how 2 similar cars can get such different fuel figures!

Our Golf gets 4.2L/100 in country and 5.9L/100 city driving.
New VW twin cab that is coming out they reckon will get 7l/100 average.
Poor little motors these days are really so finely tuned to comply its criminal.

3 litre in the L322 Serg, 2.5 in the P38 'DSE'. The latter wasn't available in australia, and by all accounts not a patch on the 3 litre for power and economy.

thanks, Im guessing they had to go to 3 ltr not only becasue being a new model and having to be an improvement on the previous but also due to the mass of the L322...

how does it compare to the 2.7TDV6?

Im guessing it is a BMW engine as was the 2.5....they are known for building a decent engine or 3.... B Motor W ;)

some classics....the first M3 4cyl, the last 6cyl M3, 6.1V12 Mac F1 engine, and who could forget those little 1.5lts 4 cyls based on the old m10 blocks that were good for over 1000hp :o

Yes it is a BMW engine, same as fitted to the 730d , 530d etc in europe at the same time. Performance is close, but you can really feel the 2.7 through the gears IMO, but it may well have something to do with gearing and transmission software. I still maintain one of the nicest transmission to engine matching I have driven in a LR product is the D3/RRS TdV6 auto.
The BMW engine is a very reliable and quite powerful bit of gear though. Like most of their engines quite impressive, except for head cracks and head problems with some of the early 3 and 5 series engines...But I reckon most of them were due to poor cooling system maintenance though.

any idea of weight of TD6 V TDV6? wonder how well a TDV6 + auto would fit in a 110??

From memory, the Tdv6 is very light, Hi carbon cast design apparently. B.A.S. in the UK have already fitted one to a 90, there is even a youtube of it running:twisted:

well unfortunatly its career was over before it began :( definitly had some potential although it was ment to be a bit tricky to drive....which im sure the drivers of the day would have overcome and the engineers would have done their best to rectify had it been raced...

one beautiful car though

puff of smoke on startup, then pretty clean after that, even under load uphill.

Full Roofrack
Bullbar
winch
235/85-16 Muddies
always loaded
economy got worse after safari snorkel was fitted

probably the way I drive it too (???;))

....and an accurate figure

I reckon that if I just did the odd tank to tank, didn't quite fill the second fill as much etc, etc, etc I could get 12's too :D
BTW best ever was 11... early days, pretty stock, highway run.
