Gday I got a wouxon KG-UVD1P hand held for Christmas. Iwas wondering if anyone could give me a personal review on this radio. I dont know much about radios (nothing really) A mate got one as well and we have spoke to each other about 18-19 kms apart with a couple of hills between us. Is that ok for a handheld ? Thanks:)

I've had my Wouxun KG-UVD1P for over a year now and can't fault it. It's a great wee radio, very clear speech and good range. I bought mine from www.409shop.com (http://www.409shop.com) as you can't buy one legally over here without a ham radio licence. From the 409 shop website you can get any parts you need from batterys to aerials to replacement cases and screens if you were to smash them, and it's all really cheap. http://www.409shop.com/409shop_shopcat.php?&usercat=2085&parentid=1693 Up untill now I have been able to listen to the police, ambulance etc, but the cops have now gone digital...................:(

Yep, they're brilliant. Got a couple to use around the farm. Doubles as a FM radio when things get quiet, and an LED torch built in too.
Not quite a "pro" radio, has a couple of nuances, but damn good at what it does.

Any other handheld in the same price bracket would be pushing to get more than a couple of km's range.
I'd even choose this over an Icom or GME, even if I could get them for the same low price as the Wouxun.
I know alot of people talk about how the Icoms are "Mil Spec", and that almost sucked me in at first. When you actually sit down and check out what those specs actually mean, alot of their radios still leave alot to be desired. (some are better than others)

As for range, I reckon "fluids" was getting about 40km (across water, from memory), and I have seen 90 something with certain environments (from highrise buildings). These are exceptions, though. Not the rule.
What you're getting is still awesome for a handheld.

G'day Brun.

Yep. They are a ripper little HT (handheld transciever). I've had mine for a while now, and like d@rk51d3 said, I was getting about 40+km from the top end of stockton beach down to newy, redhead, caves beach ... across stockton bight. Your 18-19km with hills is pretty neat!

So far this little radio has done nothing but impress me. I can hit the repeater (UHF6 duplex) from my front yard in anna bay ... repeater is on mnt sugarloaf.

If you have any questions or need help programming it, just send me a PM. Glad to help.
