Hey guys
Just thought I would throw this by everyone!
I currently have a puma and a110 4bd1T county but the next car will obviously be a 4x4 and its either going to be a range rover classic (preferably like Dranged's :) ) and modify it for a un registeted offroader or a GQ patrol 4.2D smooth gearbox good running gear (from what I know patrols drivelines are indestructible?) And turbo intercool it , modify it the same as the rangie (at least 37's heaps of flex etc etc) which would everyone choose ?

Why not mod your county?

GQ's are not bad jiggers, but I just don't like driving them:(

wouldn't be inclined to turbo the N/A Patrol have known people to do that and it go bang

The only reason I was thinking of the patrol was because its in pretty good condition and only $1000 :o but then again I could mod the county like you said .. I wouldn't mind to run at least 35's and a 3" flexy coil lift but once I put 35's on the county I dont think its going to like it very much :( would 4.11 diff ratios make it all better ? if so where do you source them from?
I have heard both good and bad reports about the patrols being turboed I know a guy with one running 35's and you plant your foot it will pin you in the seat but this one is a bit of a freak for some reason.

Tell that to the umpteen people making decent horsepower from their turbo's TD42's, definately far from the truth, quite a solid engine that responds REALLY well to boost

1K for a TD42 patrol? that's cheap as ****, buy it and ebay it, then spend the rest on the county:D

Your county will love 35's, is it 4 or 5 speed?

I originally put the 4BD1 in my rangie after pulling out the supercharged 3.9 and I had 35" tyres and 4.11 diff gears, It hit the engine governor at 120km/hr and was woeful to drive, I quickly stuck 3.54 gears back in:)

Ever driven a lifted soft sprung patrol???:o I'll take a 110 any day thanks. Of course they are near bulletproof, but who would want to struggle with its on road handling etc over 60km'hr?

The Td42 is a giant killing engine, loves a bit of cooled air rammed into it and will see half a million km easily. I'd almost say they are nearly as reliable as the 12HT...

Yeah ive seen lots of good reports of people getting some good power out of the patrols . Talking to one of the guys that has a GU that is used at tuff trucks he said he is running 30psi boost when I asked him about fuelling he said "lets say its getting up there with egt's but it only runs for 20mins max" 49" inch tyres and it goes hard he says!
Is the 12ht a factory turbo 4L cruiser motor out of the 60series ? Are they as strong as the isuzu ? Ive been told that 1hd-t motors are a good one also?

Yes, and I believe yes. 1HDT is good, but not as good as the 12HT IMO. I was even entertaining the thought of a 12HT and auto ex 61 series Sahara into my 110 at one point, but they are a Looong engine and I already had the Isuzua nd trans etc etc.

Is the 12ht a direct injected motor ? I hav been considering a 1hd-t but cannot find any good ones. I was told a 4.2td patrol motor from factory was only $7k :o

yes 12HT is Di, they have a seductive idle and a luverly 'rattle' when under light throttle. Still wish they were an easily available engine. They can be given a bit more boost and fuel to produce some very nice torque levels, and are reasonable on fuel if geared right (read HIGH). Factory is 4 to 5 psi region, and very low fuel settings. The crankcase is braced, the pistons are overengineered, and they still run a simple inline IP.

When you say crankcase is braced does that mean it is stronger than alot of other blocks by alot? Is the big ends big like the isuzu ? 5psi boost isnt much even for a big motor :o how much boost can it run ? Can it be turned up to say 15psi intercooled and fuel up to 600°c like the isuzu ? Yes they do have a nice purr at idle compared to other engines :) the na 4L's used oil like its going out of fashion I heard but the 12ht is probably a pretty different engine though
