I have been threatening to do it for a few months now so I have at last done it.I bought an Oil Suction Transfer Gun from ISP here in Newcastle and also Nulon 75w-90 semi- synthetic oil and sucked out the old oil and put in the new. The diff is supposed to be "sealed for life" (yeah, sure) and the oil that I sucked out was as black as tar, (my FL1 has done a tad over 100,000k's) and on checking the magnetic filler plug, there was no bits of metal stuck to it, which was a good sign. I know LandRover recommend a fully synthetic oil, but if I do an oil change about every 40,000 k's all should be sweet, going on the recommendations of the more knowledgeable members here. I did not do the IRD Unit as the vehicle is booked in for a 100,000k service at ALL FOURx4 so if that is not part of their service, I will do it after. Thanks to Banjo, who helped.:):)

I run mineral oil in my freelander and change it every 40000km. LR recommend synthetic because service for life. Your IRD had the oil changed when the Auto was done, but it was filled with mineral oil.
