After reading an article on adding two stroke oil to diesels, I have been trying a 1 to 200ltr ( ie 500ml to 100litres)two stroke mix in the diesel to compensate for the low sulphur content. The motor was ok untill the 600 kay mark and then started putting out black smoke on start up and when taking off from lights. It then clears and only does it under full power.
When it first started I was using the chipped ECU so put the standard one back in . It still puffs but not as bad.
Using the two stroke oil, it is supposed to help clean the motor and the injectors, also add a bit of lubrication.

Here is the site in question: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic878.html (http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic878.html)

My question is has it cleaned it out or, is there another problem?
Anybody any thoughts?

If you have never used 2So, it takes a few tanks to clean out all the gunk that has accumulated in the engine in various spots.

I'd suggest running another tank or 2 with the 2So and then see.

It could be that your injectors were clogged up, which was masking a problem. Now that they are clean(er), the black smoke is probably indicative of overfuelling.

I cant comment on weather the 2 stroke is associated with your smoke, however, the symptoms you describe can be asociated with a faulty/stuck EGR valve.

cheers

Hi Strangy,
Removed the EGR valve a few years ago as it was full of crud. Definately runs better without it.
Have decided to persevere for a while then re-consider my options if the smoke doesn't improve.
The motor is definately quieter and the fuel consumption is better for one tank of 100ltrs. We'll see.
