HI all, I was chatting with a defender owner and AULRO member at ARB in Newcastle and he had great seat covers which he had sourced from South Africa for about 450.00 for front and rear seats. Would anyone know the name of the company who makes these covers or even better if the owner of that defender could please post the company it would be much appreciated. Sorry I forgot your user name(goldfish memory).
Cheers Jamie

Melvill & Moon is what you are probably thinking of. Use the search and you'll find more info.

Canvas seat covers from South Africa are likely to be Escape Gear (see Escape Gear - Cotton & Waterproof canvas seat covers, South Africa (http://www.escapegear.co.za/)). These were imported into Australia by Dolium ( Dolium Pty Ltd (http://www.dolium.com.au)) at one time but they don't list them on their website anymore. They seem to be imported now by Blackwidow (Escape Gear (http://www.bwidow.com.au/seatcovers.htm)). Supposedly better than Melvill and Moon.

Escape Gear covers are only water repellant. M&M's are more water proof. I looked at both and ended up with the M&M's after talking to the guys at Dollium as they also didn't think the Escape Gear weren't very water repellant for what I wanted.

As for quality I don't think there is much difference.

Shame if Dollium has lost out to Blackwidow.

Is there an Australian importer for M&M seat covers?

I don't believe $450 will buy a full set of new M&M's direct from SA. I recently obtained quotes from several SA suppliers including direct from M&M and all were considerably more expensive than buying ex UK (search Brookwells). They will be about $900 including delivery to your door (for 2007 onwards, I believe a bit cheaper for earlier models).

IMHO M&M's are one of the highest quality products I've ever purchased and I don't believe anyone will better them. Attention to detail and comfort is superb and I thoroughly recommend them.

Photos of escapegear covers on the bwidow site are poor but the fit does not look even close to M&M.

Hi guys, Thanks for your responses and info. $450 was the price he said but maybe that was for the front seats only and I misunderstood. Good chance of it. If I could just remember his user name I would PM and find out.Damn brain.

I am happy with the Michelle Sachs covers on my defender.
Pair with headrest covers for front seats about $430.

I have removed the rear seats.

I could not find a supplier in Aus. for M&M and I seem to remember someone saying it is difficult to find a supplier even out of SA?

It was difficult finding SA suppliers. I found three but it was pointless anyway as none could compete with UK prices for the exact same thing.

Delivery from UK is also cheaper and quicker.

A full set from MSA was considerably more expensive and IMO no match for M&M quality.

So is Exmoor Trim the place to buy M&Ms from in the UK?

I believe Exmoor is the distributor but I bought here. melvill and moon seat cover stockists (http://www.brookwell.co.uk/products/exmoor-trim/canvas-seat-covers---melvill-and-moon)

No problems at all.

Car seat covers are made here locally in Esperance at Sandgroper Covers (http://www.sandgropercovers.com.au/)

Carl and his team do a great job that are on a par with any of the big name manufacturers, I am yet to take the Disco in for a measure and have some custom covers made up.

Give them a call later this month after their Christmas break and I'm sure they will be able to help.

This thread got me going, and I have just ordered M&M seat covers for the front seats of my Puma D90 from Nene Overland in the UK. Price was UK£237.87 which works out at approx AU$370.55. Delivery will be on top of that. Compares very favourably with the Escape Gear equivalents from Blackwidow at $420.

I got this quote this morning from Nene Overland for M&M Seat covers front and middle.

"Your goods come to a total of £407.46 and the carriage and packing for your order would be approx £155.00."

Not too certain on delivery time frame though...

Hello, I've been reading this thread but need a bit of clarification. Are you looking for just covers or the full kit including foam?

For example a full retrim kit
http://allmakes4x4.com/exmoortrim/getimg.php?p=EX7023&q=pi
(image for display purposes only)
We have one of those kits (exmoor full retrim kits) in stock and aud price would be $690 inclusive of GST...then postage from WA to the customer via AusPost.
