Has anyone pulled the aircon underdash unit off?

Mine a 90's model. Need to get at the electrics which appear to be behind the air con, maybe above the fan unit. The upper duct section is all one piece but looks like there is a removable panel below covering the fan motor. Does anyone know if I pull this cover off will I be able to get to behind it or is the fan unit attached to this panel? Can I pull the plastic / duct out a little to get behind it without disconnecting the piping etc?

I know the electrics are normally in the passenger seat well but this was installed off another vehicle, and the installers put the electrics under the dash.

In my previous experience -no. Not sure on your exact setup there, but on my 96 Defender 90 factory installed under dash unit you could do nothing to it without removing the whole affair! I lost the fan from ingesting too much muddy water through the inlet vent and I had 3 workshops check and all 3 said it had to come out completely with the associated labor cost.

Our 2004 90 had fan problems when we bought it, the whole unit had to be removed.
