I have just seen the new Freelander ads on TV and it says it has an all new turbo diesel with improved economy.

anyone know what this all new engine is in the 11/model year Freelander 2?

2.2L TD4 110kW, 400NM or 2.2L SD4 140kW, 420NM. Wonder if it's the 2.2L TDCi Duratorq from the Ford Transit. Six speed Manual or Auto gearbox... why don't I think that the manual is the same as the Defender one :p

I think it's the same as the old engine but has been tweaked to produce more power/torque, less noise and better economy. The "all new" is a bit of marketing spin I reckon although they have changed turbochargers.

Would be a cracker of an engine though. My now old and outdated 2.2 with only 400Nm of torque is still great to drive. The new version at 420Nm puts it only 20Nm shy of the 2.7 in the D4.
