Finally got the air con going! Woohoo

Took it down to the local Auto electrical guy last week. Left it there all day, no news is good news I thought so rang at 4 and said how's it going? "Just starting on it now". Great, dropped it down 1st thing in the morning, had booked in in a week ago thinking they'd have an opportunity to give it a good going over and now looks like they're going to spend 10 mins on it! They call me, I go down and the guy tells me it could be the main fuse errrrrr, try that for a few days. Reckoned it was a dodgy type of glass fuse that doesn't have the filiment soldered
(hence the hot joint) I'm thinking yeah, right.

Drove it home and was doing what it's always done on the way home, on 10 minutes....off again.

Got in it the next day and working like a champion and has been for a week! I'm cheerin. Still can't see if it was just the fuse why it wouldn't have been working correctly on the way home but will take it as a win. Just goes to show you should look for the most simple things first I guess.

So was the offending fuse on the main fuseblock on the firewall or somewhere else ?

Well it was fitted from another vehicle so not strictly a factory fitted unit. They just ran an inline fuse from a pos somewhere.

If I understand you right, this is a retro fit aircon but still a "standard" australian type... I think mine might be similar. Where is said fuse located??? I have tried and looked and cannot find a fuse anywhere!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since I posted this it's started playing up again. Had it at the repairers again yesterday and he replaced the power relay to the compressor clutch. He assured me this was what was wrong, said terminals were rusty etc. Seems ok so far but still not convinced.

Yes mate, it is the Australia AMC one fitted in Australia. AMC are still going by the way and have parts. If you google them they are in South Australia.

I got mine from the wreckers. I believe the main inline fuse and thermo amp is supposed to be installed under the passenger seat. My main fuse is under the passenger seat but the rest of the electrical controls behind the evaporator. I'm not sure if thats just where the peanuts who installed it put the gear or that's where it was always mounted. I couldn't find the electrical controls but they reckon they got to it behind the evap without disconnecting everything and pulling the unit out.
