Hi,

In my series 1 (1958, 2.0 petrol, 88") I have the additional/optional instrument panel with the combined oil and water temperature gauge.

It wasn't previously connected. The oil temp cable is attached to it. But not the water temp cable.

Does anyone have these in their series one? And how does it connect for oil and water temp? What kind of cable and attachment do I need for the water temp?

Thanks,

Kris

Oil temperature? I think it's probably more likely oil pressure, but I could be wrong. I had an early S2 wreck a while ago with this gauge, it had a sealed capilary water temp line, and a braided steel oil pressure hose. I gave it to a for his Series 1 so I can't get you a photo but he later mentioned it works perfectly despite being out in the weather for ages. It's the genuine Land Rover-badged article, not a ring-in, too. The engine and connectors at that end were long-gone, though.

I have one of these on my 2a but is probably the same gauge. Oil pressure has a t piece that goes into original thread for oil pressure switch. The braided line for the gauge goes in one end and the oil pressure switch in the other.

The coolant temp sensor on mine is fitted to the thermostat housing on the engine side of the thermostat. You may have to drill and tap a thread to fit the sensing bulb too. Make sure you use a liquid thread tape on all the joins, Loctite 565 is the go. PTFE or 'plumbers tape' shouldn't be used in automotive applications.
