drove past the neighbours place today and his D4 is parked in his drive with lumps of wood behind the rear tyres..........i'm assuming to stop it from rolling back onto the road

i haven't had to do something like this since i owned a HQ ute

In stig's defence, what he was saying is "Ít's also an auto which, therefore, has a park pawl."

The pawl is the small "rod" which locks into the flywheel (?) when the vehicle is put into "Park".

The pawl is internal to the gearbox. If it locks the flywheel the engine would come to a sudden stop when you put it into Park.

The D4's handbrake is electrically operated like many of the new cars now. Press the button and an electric motor pulls the handbrake on.

well i went to take pics but the D4 is gone........i'm guessing it was flat bedded to southside landrover

landrover assist could not help on the side of the road apart from confirming there was a problem

the main problem is the car will not start and the wheel chocks were in place so the handbrake could be left off for the tow truck driver, another battery/charger was used to release the handbrake before being abandoning the ship with a flat battery

geez, I hope this is not the start of another generation of LR customer/vehicle experiments in determining reliability:(

No its none of those things. The car is DEAD. It has a sort of charged battery and a very confused computer, and just doesn't want to go! The very nice gentleman from Land Rover assist tried to get it going ,and only achieved getting himself wet.I had to roll it down the drive so that my Darling could get her car out of the garage.

The car just sits there because the nearest dealer is under water! But I am hoping to get it sent to the other dealer on the other side of the river. But at present the other dealer is very sort of staff. If I can get it sent there at least my Darling can get her car in and out of the garage without supervision.

And yes unlike others I still have my Lse luxobarge to drive around in. What would you do without a classic. Everyone should have one tucked in a shed for emergencies.

Over the last 2 days with the situation in Queensland, we have had many many many many calls to our dealership because of people trying to start their Landys &/or people that have driven through DEEP water & now nothing wont go.
Some of the stories are funny, but some are also very STUPID.
People dont drive in flood waters.

Cheers.

Thank you for your comment, but sadly my situation is neither funny or STUPID.I think the best way to describe it is SAD

The vehicle started playing up on our Christmas Holidays. I noticed that when I tried to start it , the first press of the magic button would fail to start the car , and I would have to go though the process two or three times.

The next problem was at Canberra when we woke up in the morning (as we do) unlocked the car ,only to find a flat battery.Called Land rover assist and checked the battery(10 volts)Jumped started the car, and was told there you go Mate,( no explanation). Each night we camped I put the battery on charge, till we got home because there was no explanation for the problem.

When we got home. Saturday, I unpacked the car .Monday It was the company car again. And on Tuesday morning the car would not start.Called the boys and they could not start it.

It is very sad because the dealer has serviced the car charged the battery and claims there is nothing wrong with it.

I have suggested that they look again

.. so the handbrake could be left off for the tow truck driver, another battery/charger was used to release the handbrake ..
There's an emergency release cable for this. There's also an emergency release tab to get the g/box out of park.
