Just read that our beloved floating walkway at new farm just broke free and is now heading for the gateway bridge at 25 knots!

It took a lot of punishment and will be sadly missed by thousands of people.

Whose beloved walkway. If you used it then you are the only person I know of who did.

At a cost of $17,000,000, it would want to be beloved !!

A tug "Mavis" and her crew intercepted the walkway mid stream and guided it down river to safety. What's more they did it without attaching any lines to the pontoons, now that is skill in a fast flowing river!

Riverwalk becomes 300m floating missile
“We basically nudged the Riverwalk to straighten it up and get it under the bridge safely,’’. Mr Hislop said

He and Mr Fenton were listening to the radio and waiting for the high tide when they jumped into their vessel, Mavis, after hearing the Riverwalk was on the move.

“We didn't get a call-out. We heard it on the radio just before 4am that it was coming down and I knew it would be a problem,” Mr Hislop told brisbanetimes.com.au.

This was asked if it could happen when it was being built, with the usual assurances.

It could never happen.

Being a naturally sceptical type of person, I have learnt nature doesn't know the word never.

I am constantly amazed by the human race thinking it has nature under control. We are here for a good time, not a long one.

How are we going to fix the sun going out?
