have just been quoted $1100 to have the oil changed in my 03 td6 gearbox.
Car has done 132000ks, and I am going to tow our caravan with it, so thought I would do an oil change.
Has anyone here done this, and if so, can you advise me on procedure and cost??

sounds about right for a gbox service, we have a flush thingy that we plug into the boxs and its flushs for us now, the oil would take up alot of that cost

undo fill plug on the side
undo drain plug on the bottom
get covered in oil
replace drain plug on the bottom
put oil in the hole left by the fill plug
replace fill plug on the side.
easy.

This is a great big thank you to Dave.
We met yesterday, (and Dave's dad Bob),put my rangie over the pit, and showed me the procedure.
Also, Dave went to a great deal of trouble to print the required info for me!!
What a great family, so thanks again, Dave.

If you did it Daves way you may as well change your engine oil by draining half of it out then topping it up and not replace the filter, thats all you've done to your gearbox.Bigger problem is what fluid did you use?,if it was factory filled the fluid they use isn't available in Oz so you've mixed up a fill with 4litres of new fluid with 5litres of a different one.Have fun with it. dont worry pat, I showed him how to change the oil in an auto since thats what he has where the gearbox is ment to be.
