I've been off-forum for some days but now have power and headspace to post a bit of news from our neck of the woods...
Not sure how many forum members are in the Moggill-Bellbowrie area, but there is some information we need to get out regarding the flood recovery centre we've been running here since Tuesday. After three days of isolation we finally got the deliveries of food and other supplies we needed this morning. Now however, it seems the problem is getting it out to those in need. Even today our clean-up crews were coming across people who didn't even know we existed and they could come to us for food and other assistance.
Firstly - we are operating the recovery centre at the Moggill Uniting Church on the corner of Moggill Rd and Kangaroo Gully Rd.
We have milk, bread, tinned items, tissues, toilet paper, insect repellent, sunscreen, bottled water, nappies, formula, batteries and many other items to hand out.
We also have support people, centrelink representatives and are serving meals. Offers of assistance can be registered here and co-ordination of clean-up crews are being organised and dispatched by the local Rotary & Lions clubs. The Anglican church just up the road has donated clothing, toys and other household items to hand out.
Please let anyone you know in our area know about this as we want to see this stuff go out. The frustration of not having anything is being replaced by the frustration of having it but not seeing it get to people. Now that the roads are open a lot of people are being too damn polite and trying to look after themselves when we are here to take some of the load off.
