View Full Version : CENSORSHIP OR FREEDOM OF SPEECH?

This morning there was a thread discussing the differential treatment afforded flood victims and illegal immigrants. It has disappeared.
As the header suggests, is this politically correct censorship? Is this not a democracy where freedom of speech is a basic right?

No it is not. This is "Incisor Land", where what he says goes. We are all guests of his and as such we need to abide by his rules. I don't have an issue in doing so.

Took me a while to find the soapbox but all the rants are found by clicking on the AULRO header then go to the 9th row.:)

Freedom of speech is a fallacy anyway - just go into an airport and yell out that you've got a bomb and see how true it is. :D

And that's only because some professions demand absolutely zero sense of humour.

I wonder what would happen if I wore my "I am a bob technician. If you see me running, keep up." shirt?
I think its possible to have a sense of humour and be professional and do your job properly.

Firstly, I don't think we actually have a constitutional right to free speech in Australia, in fact the only place we had a right to say what we wanted without fear of arrest was in the Domain Park on Sunday Afternoon. These days while we mostly enjoy the ability to say and think what we want where and whenever we want, many are sailing very close to the wind in terms of sedition laws. Just consider a number of Melbourne men who have found themselves imprisoned for speaking to each other about causing malice and mayhem at the Holsworthy Army Base in Sydney. Also consider film, television and video classification amongst other freedoms.
And, as has been mentioned above this place AuLRO, is not even governed by the laws of Australia but by the rules of Inc's place! I must say we are better for it. :)

Well you certainly can't see or taste silence?!?!?! :p
As an engineer/scientist, silence is defined as a sound pressure level below a certain threshold....
(But given this is an internet forum, all of the above is irrelevant...)

Interesting.....
Internet Forum Usage
The administrators and moderators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moderators) of an internet forum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum) determine the rules for the content posted on that forum. These forums are not ruled as a democracy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy). Some have likened forum "mods" to benevolent dictators.
An example in this context is Incisor of AULRO.COM
