Just out of interest, phoned Willow Springs today, the Skytrek self drive and guided tour is open again, after a bit of a hiatus caused by environmentalists I believe, but is now back to normal:):):)

It would've been a great pity to have this track closed and prevent people from experiencing some truly amazing scenery. looking forward to doing it when we are up that way!

It's hard to image any possible environmental reason for justifying closing a private well established track - does anyone know what reason was used ?

The Arden Hills Track is another one in the Flinders. I enjoyed my trip around it a few years ago.

There was a dispute between the station owners and the yellow footed rock wallaby conservation society(I think that's their name) who own part of the land that Sky Trek is on. I think it's the part between the 2 locked gates. The details were never that public and it's probably just their business anyway. Anyway it's been resolved and I think the price has gone up as a result.
It would still be worth it because it's a fantastic 6 hour drive through diverse conditions that I'll be doing it again at Easter time if I can.

Yes, it was the track featured on the telly, thats what reminded me to ring up and check, because last time we were there it was closed, with no re-opening date available:(.

Looking through Tombies photo files of the track/ trip, looks like a must do. Both times I have been there it was closed due to weather, and the environmentalist dispute.

Skytreck is absolutely fantastic, and an absolute must do if you are in the area (and if it is open). Did not know that it had been closed. Would be a great shame if it was to permanently close.

Im looking forward to getting out and seeing some of these tracks. Now that I can take holidays when I want and not when im told I can take larger blocks off during the middle of the year to go out and do the outback trips.
