Hi all, wouldn't you know, gave my dad my 2003 4.4 vogue (got a 4th kid in the wings so have ordered a 7 seated D4), 170k odo, On two occasions while he's towing caravan car stalls and dies, engine warning lights and suspension inactive warnings chime, wait 10mins and car turns over, jerks along and then dies again, pinging noise under bonnet when trying to turn it over. Tank in each case shows ~1/3 full. RAC guys comes by, says 'can't trust the tank gauge' smiles and puts 10L fuel in and away she goes perfectly, fill up car at petrol station 10km down road and only able to put 60L in tank ie tank was NOT run dry. 'did filling the tank dislodge something floating in the tank. This occurred a second time and again fixed by putting 10L into the tank despite it being quarter full. A second 'related matter; On 3 occasions the car had been noted to rev when driven in 60kmhr zones, doesn't seem that manual mode was activated. Stopping car and restarting fixes problem ? Some kind of related fuel management problem? Thanks for any suggestions or relaying any similar experiences.

Sounds like it's sucking air from somewhere other than the sender.I'd pull the sender out and have a look, maybe the bottom has cracked or broken off.If he's towing it could be the self protect doing it too, warning lights usually mean something like temps have gone outside allowable limits, giving it a break lets it cool down. Hi there,
I also have a l322 4.4 I have been told if you run your tank under a 1/4 on the guage the fuel pump inside the tank will run warmer than normal which reduces the life of the pump. Maybe your fuel pump is running warm and is due to be changed, which is cutting out because there is not enough petrol in your tank to cool it. Mine has done 170k and the fuel pump has been changed. ( Just a thought)
