The first day I bought my Deefer (without ever driving one!) was like "what have I done!" Handbrake piercing one leg, window winder stabbing the other...and how the hell do you do a right hand turn? And the engine noise. And normally when I'm in 4th gear the scenery changes.

The next day I'd fallen in love and still am....most of the time.
I actually look forward to going to work to get into the old girl. Every trip is special.

Every now and then, may be one trip out of 20, I get in and it just doesn't happen. The cars the same, just me or my mood obviously. Been driving around in my comfy, smooth, quiet Freelander for a few days. Got back in the Deefer last night all excited. I reckon I felt every bump, rattles were annoying the crp out of me, muffed every gear change. My best experiences in the Defender are when I'm laid back, and just go with the flow...don't rush the gear changes or try and go any faster than you're going too. Just every now and then :-(

Must be like a horse when you first get on, you're all stiff and getting bounced all over the place until you learn to go with the flow

I have recently rolled my left ankle so am driving the Freelander, nice quiet etc, etc. Had to do a bit of running around so had Mrs TwoUp drive the Puma. Well B*gger me, no clunks, slap, or general unsettling noises. Led me to ponder the whole Puma thing. Now Mrs TwoUp also drives the 98 Defender well as well:)

There was a feeling of ease being the passenger in my car and just enjoying the ride.

You pair must surly be joshing...what rattle, bump and clunk:angel:

Love our fender to bits...but must admit to mucking up gear changes in it though as my daily driver is the series III:D

Hey Fender22, I have exactly the same experience with mine.
Today we took the kids up and around Mt Glorious for a drive - the truck felt better than ever - none of the backlash or engine noise seemed to be happening today. It's almost like the truck wanted to go for a drive and was enjoying the trip. When we got home, the injector pump was still leaking though (bugger) so I guess I was just in a good mood after all.
I love my truck, and want to keep it forever, but some days it does make me wonder why!
