View Full Version : Permission for Boat!

While my wife was in hospital, and recovering from surgery (and on strong pain meds), she gave me permission to buy a boat! We are north of Cairns, and want about a 5 - 6m all around boat. Will buy second hand, due to price, and add on's. I grew up waterskiing, and would love to get back into it. Would also love one comfortable enough to take out to Green Island on a nice day. Wouldn't mind doing some fishing, but it is not a priority. A tinnie is probably out of the question, as they are well.... "tinnie". Looking at a bow rider with about a 150hp outboard. There are some beautiful Cruise Craft boats for sale, but expensive. Will pay, but are they worth the money for a second hand boat? Any personal recommendations?
Thanks,
Ken

Actually this is the boat I was looking at. More of a ski boat, but foam filled hull, and moderately high sides. New they are $65 - 70k. A fair bit of depreciation after 4 years, but they seem to slow down in dropping from there. I think it would look nice behind the Defender:D

Ken,
that cruisecraft would make an excellent Cairns boat.
As you say easy cruise out to Green, Fitzroy or the cays. Also some great places to camp down along the coast, High Island etc etc.
Would also do good service up the dam dragging people around...
Its the right type of engine no questions about it, 80 hours is low hours - I just wonder if I would want a few more neddies up the back of a 6ish m boat?
And Andy that looks like a 7.1 hydrofield... dont hesitate just buy it - they are a little unique but just awesome hull. Not many made but a classic for short sharp chop?

Thanks Steve,
I think it has a lot of potential, and it would be comfortable for my wife to ride in. I was originally thinking of an alloy hull, centre console fishing boat, but she would not be comfortable. Trust me, her comfort is paramount!! I also think that I don't want to drag a boat up to the cape anyway, so around Cairns it would suit lots of different kinds of activities. The Endevour River does sound appealing however;)
Cheers,
Ken

A boat like the cruisecraft you would just run up to Cookie by sea. Its only 90nm by sea... On a good day that hull would go by sea quicker than you could drive.
Lots of nice places to camp / relax on the way Snapper Island, Cape Trib, Cedar Bay, Hope Islands...
With respect to buying a tinny, unless its bigger than 8m, has a cabin and weighs ~3tonnes dont even bother!
Glass all the way up round these parts. FNQ chop is made for glass boats!
