:confused:Just picked up new D4 HSE yesterday. Car seems fantastic and was spec'd wi a rear diff locker. The problem is that I am buggered if I can see how to activate it. The dealer is pretty quiet regarding my questions and I have a sneaking suspicion they haven't out the diff lock on.
Does anyone know where the activation switch for it is?
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter the rear diff is electronic control ,only comes when needed
If you go to 4x4 screen you will see a graphic of the cdl and rear with green padlocks , put it in rock crawl get on the neighbours front lawn and floor it, should see centre and or rear padlocks go red. Or get on the GTR (Topix )site punch VIN number and it will tell ya how it left foctory

There is no switch. The vehicle will decide if and when it is required and activate it for you.

Thanks Roamer and bigjon.
Every other rear diff locker I have used has had to be activated by the user, hence my confusion.

That's the beauty with these, off and on as required, no winding up, no selections.

Gear box or book? :)
I hate new car owner manuals....they cover a thousand (OK exaggeration) variants and options and it's bloody hard to work out what your car actually has fitted.....

Hi Tombie,
I have read the book cover to cover twice and can find absolutely no reference to the diff lock! I admit I generally don't read the manuals, however this time imp lead not guilty:wasntme:

A snap question....
Is the e-Diff standard on any D4's?
If not, I'm gonna stick my neck out and say that you won't find it in the manual.
Had a Berlina once with a sunroof. OEM from brand new. But not a standard fit for a Berlina. Nothing in the manual about it at all, and took a bit of working out as it's safety sensors were easy to confuse.
However in the D4, it's a moot point, as no thinking or selection is required on the CDL or e-Diff...it just does it thing when it needs to.
Lucky buggers....

The e-diff has to be ordered from new. It's not a standard item.
To tell if yours has one, apparently there is some visible wiring at the diff.
Others may be able to add to this.

Stormoway,
The D3 one will fit. It just has to be ordered the correct way, with or without phone.
BUT
Not depending if your D4 has a phone or not, because they all do !!!!
It depends on if you have iPod connectivity or not as this will have the cable fold on the rear of the lid & the cutout pre-cut for you;)
If you have iPod connectivity then you order with phone kit.

So does the V8 have a different manual, or do none of the manuals cover the e-Diff?

Hmm, I suspect the latter (same manual / its not mentioned) but I will check.
