I've been looking into making a more scale RC crawler.

After a bit of musing I decided a SASR 6x6 Perentie would be great. It would also be a lot of work (and money!)

Keeping in mind I know zilch about RC stuff, I was eyeing off the kit you posted and thinking of adding the extra axle etc. and cutting up one (or two!) of the 90 bodies.

The next thing I found was this: "The Beast" Blackwell 2.5T 6x6 RTR Vehicle (http://store.rc4wd.com/The-Beast-Blackwell-25T-6x6-RTR-Vehicle_p_1175.html)

I figured since I have no idea about the actual mechanics of the RC cars that would be an easier way for me to start. The only problem is it isn't to scale with any of the 1:10 bodies available, which means I'd essentially have to make my own. I saw an interesting tutorial on youtube showing styrofoam being covered with alluminium foil. I'm not sure how hard this would be to do though.
The advantage is the perenties are relatively square on the back, the wings could be difficult to get right unless I used a 1:10 body as a mold.

Regardless I'm still a fair chunk away from having the $800+ for the 6x6 "beast"

Any input from people who run/have built rc stuff would be great.

Cheers.

Mate head over to the Aussie rc crawler forum the crawl pit (http://www.thecrawlpit.com) . They will have all the answers you need and are a bunch of great guys. Im not on there very often lately as I havent got the money to build a scaler at the moment. I still have my Outlaw comp buggy though.
