View Full Version : LPG Economy - affected by gas pressure?

Hi there - one for the LPG experts.

I'm not sure if my LPG is getting the economy it should - a while ago it went back to the LPG fitters for its 1000km service. Since then the economy has been down a bit about 200-250km per 55L fill, whereas before I was getting a bit more (up to 300km on a good day...)

One thing they did was tweak the pressure as it was a bit low - the car occasionally stalled at idle when warm and this was attributed to low pressure from the tank.

I am sure I read somewhere in these forums that gas pressure should be set to the lowest that the engine will run well and any more is a waste - however I cannot find that thread anymore.

So my question is can I fiddle with the pressure myself - and if so is the adjustment made at the tank or the mixer?

I have a 1997 V8 Disco with a ring mixer and a manifold tank in the boot.

Cheers and Happy Australia Day everyone!

yes you can, search up for your particular LPG mixer and how to tune it online.

its just like tuning carbies but a touch more delicate and susceptible to temperature changes pooching you.

PICTURES PLEASE!!! I can't advise on how to adjust your gas until I know exactly what brand/type it is. As far as "pressure" is concerned, it isn't something you adjust unless you have a specific reason for it. The pressure of the gas in the tank has nothing to do with consumption, it is the pressure in the primary stage of the regulator/converter that is adjustable in some (not all) systems.

What you have adjustments for is "mixture", usually separately for idle, off idle, power and sometimes cruise. These adjustments are done under the bonnet and require some knowledge to do correctly. Then you should also understand the spark plugs and ignition timing should be set for optimum gas operation as well.

Thanks for the quick replies - unfortunately I didn't get a chance to take any photos today but I'll have a quick Google and see how I go.

It sounds a touch more involved than I'd hoped! Anyway about to do a long drive so any improvement in economy would be welcome! ;)
