Hi Guys.
I have totally lost my HEVAC display.
It was working perfectly one minute then gone the next.
It still seems to be functioning with all controls responding.
Just no display.
I know the HEVAC display panel has 5 globes behind the unit but surely they all couldn't go just like that at once.
I have checked all the fuses I think.

Any ideas

There are bulbs behind but there is also a bigger problem that I recently discovered on mine. There is a ribbon cable which runs from the lcd display to the pcb. The cable is fixed with some sort of glue and also pressed in place with a silicone bar. The glue dries out and you start to get bad connections. The display will work in random areas. If the silicone bar somehow falls out then you could loose all the display. Hopefully your problem is the bulb

If it is indeed the silicon bar that's allowing the ribbon to separare (seems likely) you can try putting a piece of rubber band in there instead or as well - fixed mine like that.

Ok upon closer inspection if I look really close I can see the display but very dim. So I take it must be the rear globes. I'm just surprised that all 5 globes can go just like that. Unless a wire or connection somewhere along the line has failed. Could the silicone bar or ribbon be the cause of the globes I wonder?

I think only one bulb illuminates the LCD panel

That's good to know Wayne. I have now removed the HEVAC panel and will be checking out all the bulbs first thing in the morning. I hope its that simple.

Thanks everyone

One bulb as per my fix page: LCD Backlight Repair (http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/lcdlights.html)

Ok I checked the main display 2w globe (LR part STC 3868 & 9). Replaced 2 globes which looked suss. Slapped it all together and still no luck. Could it be that ribbon cable I wonder. But would the ribbon cable cause a non functioning bulb. Also how could I check if the ribbon cable is playing up? One other question I have is what is the fuse number for the HEVAC. The reason I ask is that I have noticed a burnt smelling yellow relay in the fuse box. Could a relay cause any of this grief. Also thanks a million for Rons LCD Backlight repair & center console side panel removal guide. Absolutely fantastic guide which turned what looked like a daunting task into a really simple job. I had the HEVAC unit out in under 10 mins tonight.

No. I assume you replaced the centre bulb (No.3 in this pic) :

The fuse info is in the owners handbook (I'm not getting dressed to go outside to get mine!)

Burnt relay (if it's number 7) is for one of the blower motors. Common on P38's (i've done it on both of my P38's). Also number 8 is blower motor too from memory!

RL6 is the other blower motor relay. RL12 Fuel Pump Relay also overheats.

A gut feeling is telling me its something to do with the relays or within the fuse box. My HEVAC was working perfect showing no signs of playing up. So for it to suddenly just fail plus that distinct burnt electrical smell. All the globes have been checked and changed especially number 3. I'll go out right now and double check all relays & fuses. Especially Relay 7.
