View Full Version : Aircon electrics

Hi All,

Took my 130 to the Auto electrician to see if he could diagnose my a/c not working... he looked at my battery box (AKA Spaghetti junction) and I was soon going home none the wiser.
I have had the 130 for a month now, I inherited the wiring :censored: and am as a result beginning "Operation Spaghetti Junction" in order to clean it up, and diagnose an A/C problem... I hope.

Question: is this the A/C electrics as per Ron's schematic diagram? and any tips on diagosing the fault here in, or should I just replace the fuses and relays and hope for the best?

Well, I worked it out! these were indeed the A/C electrics. Two relays, two fuses (the third is just a spare) and a thermo amp (the thing with eight wires out the top.

Better still, as I was organising spaghetti junction, AKA the battery box, I discovered that the previous owner had cut through the positive wire!, I hooked it up, and low and behold, I HAVE AIRCON!!!

Now despite much beer and skittles, I still have a small problem, the aircon will stay on even after the keys have been removed, should this turn off when I turn the engine off?

It seems you've taken the +'ve off a battery feed. Take it off an ignition feed, so it works only with ign on.

DOH!:bangin: How simple can it be!

Cripes I'm glad I fond this thread ! I was wndering
1. What all that stuff was in my battery box.
2. Why my air con wasn;t working.

and realised that I had unplugged some of that stuff to fit a battery tray etc and will need to move a fair bit of it around.

Cool !

I presume the thermo amp is the thing that controls turning the compressor on and off to mainatin a certain temp range.
What are the 8 wires (eg what are they linked to)

found the schematic after a search through the "files" and then "technical manuals": Links and Downloads Manager - Australian Land Rover Owners (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=3&id=89)

it would appear of the 8 leads there are 2 earths, 1 pressure switch then compressor clutch and 5 to the evaporator / blower...

If anyone is able to take some good clear photographs of the various parts shown on the circuit diagram (evaporator, etc) showing wiring, then I will put together a "one stop shop" document on this.

Cheers
Mike
