Hello collective fountain of wisdom,

I am researching the replacement of a majority of the ignition system on a petrol 2.25 from a late 2a.

I will be putting on an electronic ignition kit soon, and want to mate the most effective coil and HT leads to this.

Should I be looking for some kind of sports coil, something different, or stick to the Bosch GT40 that is on there now? There is a myriad of coils available, but what would suit the 2.25?

Is it just the volt rating I need to be looking at?

I know any difference will be only marginal, and I don't really want outright power, but just a slightly modernised 2.25 that won't have to work as hard or drink as much.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

The Bosch coil is good (if Australian made), but you really need to read up the specs of the electronic conversion. The Crane XR700 kit copes well, the Pertronics Ignitor kit doesn't.

Don't expect the electronic ignition to make a noticeable difference to performance or economy, unless the conventional Kettering ignition is in poor shape. The only tangible advantage of electronic ignition will be lower maintenance.
