Radiator advice ?

My radiator has sprung a leak where the fan shroud is secured to the radiator tank - yep, in/near/under/around the securing screw.

I have managed to stem the flow by wrapping the screw in plumbers teflon tape but see this as a temporary measure only.

So, I am looking for a new radiator (2002 td5), there a few choices and range in price from around $280 to $450, names include GM, Britpart and Genuine, its interesting that Genuine is around $100 cheaper than some after market models...

The question is, are there any particular radiator brands that people have had problems with, I have read that some are prone to leaking at the same screw thread location as mine but have not been able to identify a make.

any thoughts ? I expect that Genuine is the safe bet however there are cheaper options again.

Usually a decent quality sealant will fix this problem, it isn't unusual unfortunately. I would go genuine, always.

They are as you have found out very reasonably priced. Try buying a new genuine Nissan Navara or Patrol rad:eek: At least $800!!!

I'll give sealant a try, would you recommend a flexible silicon gasket type or other?

I use Wurth 250, but any high quality hitemp auto grade silicon type sealant should do the trick.

Yes! can happen,fairely common with after-market replacements.
The screws are too long or the mouldings too shallow and break into the water passage.
Usually using plumbers gas tape aroumd the thread will fix.
using a small O ring under the screw is added insurance,should solve the problem without further expense
