I notice Supercheap often do the 6 aerosol can deal pretty cheap. I thought maybe it might be cheaper again buying it by the 10 or 20 litre drum, and using my air-compressor.

Anyone know what brand is good?

Don't know the good brands but I reckon you've got a pretty good idea there - damn! why didn't I think of that :( but I'm glad you did :)

I've started using the SuperCheap aerosols because it is difficult and/or expensive to buy a good mineral based degreaser. All of the degreasers are now the biodegradable "green" ones and they do a terrible job.
In contrast, the SuperCheap aerosols are fantastic. Great value for money!

FWIW, my opinion of SuperCheap is you get what you pay for.

The compressor idea is a good one, especially if you can make or adapt a venturi spray gun.

As for brands, I've always found that Kenco is a good GP degreaser, although kero is cheaper. Petrol works, but it's really stupid to use it.

Seriously, Kenco works. I'm looking forward to hear what others use.

Can't argue there. Bit like the stupid new light globes really.

My vote also for supercheap degreaser. Some others are more akin to foaming shaving cream. Supercheap stuff actually cuts through gunk.

I've been using Supercheap aerosole degreaser for years and it really rips through the grease and muck. It's Export brand and when on sale at less than $1.00 a can is good value. Auto barn also does some good specials on it. It at most 2 dollar tyre shops. Usually cost around $2.

Also use Kenco degreaser. Although it does leave alloy blemished. Did hear of a mix of kero and Chemtech degreaser worked well. Bob

Best degreaser for general cleaning is a 50/50 mix of diesel fuel and kerosene. It's cheap, cuts through gunk and doesn't damage paint or alloy. Leaves a light film of oil on the surface so your parts won't rust. Of course if you want to paint you need to wipe wth petrol or turps. I just use it in a spray bottle and leave it for half an hour then pressure clean it off. It's cheap and works well plus it doesn't evaporate or dry out.

If I have a lot of gunk I hit it with this mix and then the supercheap stuff to finish off.

Ranga,

You have seen how bad some of our trucks are when bought;)

that degreaser we use all the time, kero and diesel is good but the supercheap one is great and cheap when on special...we buy it in bulk;)

Mrs hh:angel:

So, do you buy it in bulk aerosol cans, or bulk liquid?

Personally I like a soapy degreaser in a pump bottle sprayed on a hot engine (electrics covered with bags) then using a pressure washer to spray it all off. quick and cheap.

it works even quicker and easier when mixed with kero instead of water and doesn't harm alloy
this is one I prepared earlier, CT14/Kero and a paint brush then hosed off with H2o but 1 litre concentrate to 100 litres of water does wonders to engine bays.

I use Cummins classic blue heavy duty degreaser. Works great, but don't get it near polished alloy or paint, or you will regret it. Also takes your skin off if you get it on your fingers for too long. :p. Hoses off easily with water, and doesn't leave a residue. You can get it in 5 or 20 litre containers. My 20l drum has lasted ages.

I use the Supercheap as a hand cleaner- brilliant stuff for that, although there is a shop here in melb that sells 12 cans of Motoguard ( same stuff) for $12.00. I think I have 4 cartons here & there:eek:
Yes, my hands get dirty most days:)
I do have the biodegradeable CT14 stuff for bigger jobs

Lanotec Citraforce, it's green and it seems to work too :). Had to clean up the underside of a series vehicle seatbox the other day and they get covered in old grease and oil that just cooks for years. Sprayed it on, left it for a while then pressure cleaned it off, all good.

And I have tried the CT14 with Kero and I think this is better. Straight Kero works well with engine parts and such but I will be trying the citraforce next time. Your hands smell better at the end of it too.
