Just wondered if anyone has info on the new purchase price in 1975 for a Series 3 109" hardtop with a 6 cylinder motor?
I was contemplating car values and depreciation. A new car worth $30k today is only worth $10k within a few years, yet I can't imagine the new price of a Landy in 75 was much different to what they can fetch these days. It just got me thinking.....

According to Off Road Australia Vol 1 No 6 (no cover date but it has reports from the Sunraysia '75 Desert Rally & an ad for Yamaha for their 1975 trail bike) the price list for Leyland Australia products are:
109 6cyl cab chassis $4929
109 6cyl ute $5197
109 6cyl ("steel truck"?) tray $5270
109 6cyl hard top $5723
109 6cyl station wagon $7170
The equivalent 109 4cyl version was $106 cheaper (no station wagon option).
The 109 4cyl diesel version was about $400 more depending on model (no sw option).
88 4cyl petrol soft top $4639
88 4cyl petrol ute $4718
88 4cyl petrol hard top $5197
The equivalent diesel was $526 more.
Range Rover $9352.
Interestingly, there was a full colour double page advert in the middle of the mag boasting Leyland has 321 service centres Australia wide. Those were the days...

Funny, that's about exactly what I paid when I bought my 1976 Series 3 in 1998/1999!
So they depreciate by the same rate as inflation.

I paid less than half that for my 'zara' but she was in very good running order and just needed a spruce up...well total repaint and interior refurb but we are perfectionist here:D

As an aside if you go to this site:
Cost of Living Australia (http://www.wabmo.com/Cost/Australia.htm)
you can get some idea of what the equivalent value is in today's (or at least 2008 ) dollars.
e.g A $7000 vehicle is equivalent to about $40,000 of today's dollars
