So I have an issue with my SLS on the D2, no problem I think, just do a search on AULRO and all will be fixed,

So I have ordered the new airbags in from England,

HOWEVER,

For the last fortnight the car will sink to the bump stops over night, and each morning when I start it it rises to the correct height....This is why I ordered the bags,

BUT

the car sat in the carport for Friday, Saturday and Sunday and didn't go down at all, still at the correct height Sunday evening, then Monday (car hasn't moved or been driven) it was back on the bump stops WTF....
Monday night didn't go down However Tuesday night it did and this morning (Wednesday night) it stayed up again........... The car parks in roughly the same spot each night give or take a few inches

The bags should be here soon and hopefully this will all stop,

I know there are many threads on SLS however I didn't see any with the SLS faulting intermittently in this way

Classic bag failure behaviour.

The lower part of the bag where it rolls over gets fractured/ stressed and abraided, then leaks. Sometimes the stress points hold air sometimes they dont. One bag goes down (sometimes its both) and then the SLABS ECU compensates for level by lowering the other until you hit the stops.

Since fitting my new bags I have made a habit of raising the truck to off road height when i wash it down and give that area a good rinse. This just keeps a bit less abrasive rubbish for the bag to roll over.

Dont worry you havnt bought bags prematurely

cheers

Funny thing is,, just installed my second set, so you'd think I'd have some idea if the Trelleborg bags Paddocks supply would be ok,,
but seeing as the the last set were in the car for only 48 hours before it was written off, and these ones have only been in for 48 hours--
I'm still wondering:eek:

About 12 months since I changed mine, Paddocks' Dunlop jobs and 10,000km (4000km heavy and off road):D
Happy camper. Very confident with these, not like those other things from the US.

cheers

I did read not to get the Yankee bags but the car hasn't dropped since Tuesday:mad:

Mind you the new ones should be here this Tuesday, more work to do, spent the day rewiring the winch and spotlights after the panel shop had fixed it.

Just a fussy bugger when it comes to this area

Mines started doing this while I was in Kalbarri a few weeks ago. Put it down to Murchison gravel getting into the roll seal but lifted it up and nothing.
Would drop down then after starting it and letting it raise back up, would stay there with no problems at all.
Have sprayed the bags but can't see any bubbles at all.
Always wondered if something like Holts Tyreweld would work temporarily.........

Wonder why no ones come up with silicone rubber bags yet?????

Cheers

Andrew.

I'm not so sure it's always the bags in cases like this. Once a bag leaks, it will keep on leaking.
A bad seat on a solenoid or dirt on the seat can be periodical. Ironically mine started after significantly dusty roads up north....

My thoughts as well, last owner replaced them but they would be aroung the 4 yrs old now.

Going to LCMP this weekend but taking up the spare bags as well, just in case.

Car was at a panel shop for three weeks over xmas then the bags were dropping daily slowing down and now not doing it at all. Hopefully dirty seats or a computer that needed to wake up....

Oh well thanks to all that replied

Take lid lid off compressor passenger side under sill. Undo pipes from bags and allow to deflate. Make sure nothing under car that could be crushed! Pipes won't go crazy and blow you away. Valve block easy to see and has lids held down by plastic clips. You can then take them off and clean out any dust. On mine the clips came off!=bumpy ride home till I figured it out!
Think the filter from memory is behind rear left pillar tail light, but that may be for the rear diff. Anyway if dust at valves, would need checking.
On mine if one bag had a hole the other stayed up; I guess it unlikely both bags blow at once.
I bags are staying up, they are probably ok.
Compressor will 'time out' sometimes when re-inflating, turn off and leave it a bit then on again.

I assumed a bag went down and stayed down at LCMP, so I swapped them out for the two new ones and the car was able to be driven home with no issues,

However next morning (Monday) drivers side down:(, then yesterday and today both sides down, takes at least 6+ hours as car was still up at 10pm last night and was parked at approx 4pm.

Going to pull it all apart on the weekend, I will persevere with is as I am not going to coils.

Side note P38 Rangie was spotted at LCMP, first I have seen in the bush but would love to own one. I like the idea of a Defender but just can't slum it.

Sounds like a leaky solenoid or line.
Always had the suspicion it wasn't a bag as it's sporadic.
Keep us informed as I'm about to look at mine also. Suffering exactly the same symptoms.

Cheers

Andrew

Went through the system on the weekend, and found the drivers side air line leaking. Must have stuffed up when changing the bags, mind you it was in the bush.

Bad thing is it didn't tighten as nice as the passenger bag, bloody plastic fittings and by the look one can not purchase the valve block separate to the pump.

Oh well, at least the car is up and level
