I just heard on the news that another soldier was killed yesterday, Cpl Atkison. I went through basic training with him back in 07 and he was a good guy. RIP mate

My condolences to his family.
I was honoured but saddened to participate in the repatriation honour guards for all 10 of our lads we brought (sent) home during 2010.
I can tell you that no effort will be spared to give him a dignified exit from the battlefield.
During my time in 2010, only one Serviceman opted out of repatriation duties and only because he was very close to the young man being returned. He did not want his grief to affect the professionalism of the remainder of the guard, vigil and piquets.
The hearses will be hand washed in pure bottled water and drivers will rehearse speed and timings ad nauseum. Aircrew will spit polish the airframe and the pall and casket bearers will press and iron field uniforms and straighten hats caps etc.
Draped flags and accoutriments are blessed once allocated and everyone (less essential staff) will voluntarily attend mass or religious service. Many contribute to 'family funds'.
Importantly, the tragedy spurs those remaining to try extra hard to 'win the fight; so the loss is not in vain.

RIP Richard Atkinson

RIP.
I know how you feel, the very first commando lost in 2007, PTE L. WORSLEY, was a very close friend of mine, we were deployed in the same company in 2003 (regular forces).

My condolances Mark.

S. Stacey.
